Jen spent 15 years producing-writing, as well as dabbled in the dark arts of film business – acquisition, marketing and distribution. Her first feature Truth Be Told (2007) bagged Best Original Film at the Asian Film Festival of Rome, and she went on to produce the International Emmy-nominated web series People Like Us (2016, 2019).
As producer, her projects in development were selected for labs and financing forums such as the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (2014), Europe-Asia Ties that Bind Producers’ Workshop (2015), BiFAN-NAFF It Project (2016), IMDA-LaSalle WritersLab 2017, Screen Canberra Accelerator Film POD (2018/19) and Co-Production Bazaar (2019).
But at some point, she realised that being financially creative was way less fun than being aesthetically creative. But directing is also way scarier. It feels like standing naked in front of the world. Yet, she’s got way too much to say to let that stop her.
Her rebirth as writer-director pushed off with Elsa (2019), a docu-short that won the Special Mention Award at the SeaShorts Film Festival 2020 and travelled to festivals like Jogja-NETPAC 2020. Her first narrative short, The Note (2021), made its way to Inside Out Toronto Film Festival 2022, among others. Currently, she’s in post-production for Buah, a project developed at the Objectifs Short Film Incubator 2023.
On the horizon: more short films, including a revisionist western Trash, and her directorial debut feature film, Unmother, developed at AFiS 2021, mylab 2022 and Full Circle Lab Philippines 2022.
