Francesco Barozzi belongs to that generation of independent filmmakers who have chosen to build their path away from the more conventional formulas of Italian cinema. Born in Modena in 1982, writer and director, he has developed over the years a personal vision capable of moving across very different registers — from drama to comedy — signing a feature film and numerous short films presented and awarded at national and international festivals.

At the heart of his filmography lies a constant interest in the contradictions of the individual and in the social dynamics that shape behaviours, relationships and identities. For Barozzi, storytelling is an instrument of critical observation of contemporary society: he explores its fragilities, hypocrisies and blind spots with a free and deeply personal eye.

His feature film "L'ultima notte" (2018), inspired by a local news story from Modena, was listed by FilmTV among the ten best unreleased Italian films of the year and presented in significant international contexts. Throughout his career he has directed leading actors including Roberto Herlitzka, Elena Cotta, Beatrice Schiros, Giusi Merli, Miro Landoni, Angela Ciaburri and Federico Vanni. He continues to develop new projects, keeping at the centre of his work the telling of people's stories and the transformations of the world around them.
