9th Foça International Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Documentary Film Festival

Submissions are being accepted as of 1 February for the 9th Foça International Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Documentary Film Festival (Foça Film Days 2026), which will take place from 14-18 October 2026.

Foça is a quiet coastal town located north of Izmir on the Aegean coast of Turkey that has witnessed civilizations come and go for at least 5,000 years. The opening of Foça Film Days is held outdoors on Foça’s Marseille Square, an open space surrounded by beautifully restored stone houses from the 19th and early 20th centuries. During Foça Film Days, documentary films from around the world are screened at the Reha Midilli Cultural Centre. They are followed by post-screening Q&As with film directors and other invited guests. Foça Film Days also offers workshops, exhibitions and guided tours of Foça’s historical sites. All events are free and open to the public.

Foça Film Days is organized by the Foça Film Platform, operating now as a part of the Foça Agora Lab Association, with the support of local, national and international partners. While the Foça Film Platform is committed to showing films that highlight new knowledge in the field of archaeology, we take a wide view of the concept of ‘cultural heritage’. Our aim is to present a well-rounded program of entertaining and informative documentaries that focus on unique examples of human civilizations and cultural activity, past and present, from around the world. 9. Foça Uluslararası Arkeoloji ve Kültürel Miras Belgesel Film Festivali

14-18 Ekim 2026 tarihleri arasında düzenlenecek olan 9. Foça Uluslararası Arkeoloji ve Kültürel Miras Film Festivali’nin başvuru süreci başlıyor.

İzmir’in kuzeyinde Ege kıyısında bulunan Foça, en az 5.000 yıldır medeniyetlerin gelip gidişine tanıklık etmiş sakin bir sahil kasabasıdır. Foça Film Günleri'nin açılışı, restore edilmiş 19. ve 20. yüzyıldan muhteşem taş evlerle çevrili Marsilya Meydanında açık havada gerçekleştirilecektir. Festival sırasında hem Marsilya Meydanı, hem de Reha Midilli Kültür Merkezi film tutkunlarının buluşma noktası olacak. Film gösterimleri dışında etkinlik kapsamında, yönetmen katılımlı söyleşiler, atölyeler, sergiler ve Foça’nın tarihi alanlarına arkeolog rehberler eşliğinde turlar düzenlenecek. Bütün etkinlikler ücretsiz ve halka açık olacak.

Foça Film Günleri, yerel, ulusal ve uluslararası ortakların desteği ile, Foça Agora Lab Kültür Derneği çatısı altında faaliyet gösteren Foça Film Platformu tarafından düzenlenmektedir. Foça Film Platformu olarak arkeoloji alanında yeni bilgiler sunan filmleri göstermeyi hedeflemekle birlikte, 'kültürel miras' kavramına geniş bir bakış açısı getirmekteyiz. Amacımız, dünyanın dört bir yanında geçmişten ve günümüzden insan uygarlıklarının ve kültürel faaliyetinin özgün örneklerine odaklanan, eğlenceli ve bilgilendirici belgesellerden oluşan çok yönlü bir program sunmaktır. Foça Film Günleri 2026 programı yazın yayımlanacaktır; ancak önceki yılların programlarını www.focafilmdays.org web sitesinde bulabilirsiniz.

Awards & Prizes

While there is no official competition/awards for films ("no winner=everyone's a winner"), each year Foça Film Days invites a number of directors to attend Foça Film Days as our guests. Please note that invitations are contingent upon support from local hotels and restaurants as well as institutional partners, and the number of invitations varies each year. However, all filmmakers whose works are included as Official Selections for screening at the Foça International Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Film Festival receives a certificate of participation and 'laurels'.

Foça Film Günleri ödül vermemektedir. Ancak, Foça Uluslararası Arkeoloji ve Kültürel Miras Film Günleri’nde gösterilmek için seçilecek olan eserlerin sahiplerine logomuzun da yer aldığı bir katılımcı sertifikası verilecektir. Ayrıca, Foça’daki otel ve restoranlar ile kurumsal ortaklarımızın desteği sayesinde her yıl festivalde sınırlı sayıda yönetmene ev sahipliği yapabilmekteyiz.

Rules & Terms

(Türkçe aşağıdadır)

1. Submissions are limited to documentary films about archaeology and cultural heritage that have been completed after December 31, 2020. Films that do not fit these criteria will not be evaluated.

2. All submissions must be sent electronically through Filmfreeway.com. No other submissions will be evaluated.

3. All films in languages other than English or Turkish must be submitted with English subtitles, and a separate .srt file must be included with the application. Films submitted without an .srt file will not be evaluated.

4. Applicants whose films are accepted for screening must provide the Foça Film Platform with the following material by 15 June 2026: a link to a downloadable .mov or .mp4 HD264 or HD265 copy of the accepted film without subtitles; 3 film stills and/or a film trailer/link; and a director’s photo/bio. (Films in Turkish are also required to submit .srt files in both English and Turkish.) Applicants who do not submit this material by 15 June 2026 at the latest may not be included in the final program.

5. The applicant certifies that s/he is the owner of the film submitted herein, assumes sole legal responsibility for the use of any and all copyrighted material that appears in the film, and indemnifies Foça Film Days against any claims, losses, damages related to the film screening and/or legal proceedings by third parties.

6. In submitting a film, the applicant grants the Foça Film Platform the right to screen the submitted film in Foça during Foça Film Days between 14-18 October 2026. No fee will be requested/paid in connection with this screening. Furthermore, unless the applicant specifically states otherwise in their application form, the applicant also grants the Foça Film Platform the right to screen the submitted film once in Foça during the “Best of Foça Film Days” screenings between February-April 2027.

7. The applicant grants the Foça Film Platform the right to print and publish photographs and film clips to be displayed/screened for promotional purposes in exhibitions and on-line on various platforms, including, but not limited to, the Foça Film Days web site and social media platforms.

8. All decisions regarding the Foça Film Days 2026 program are final and cannot be appealed. By submitting your application, you agree to these conditions.

BAŞVURU KOŞULLARI

1. Yalnızca 1 Ocak 2021 tarihinden itibaren yapılmış olan arkeoloji ve kültürel miras konulu belgesel filmler başvurabilir. Bu kritere uymayan başvurular değerlendirmeye alınmayacaktır.

2. Başvurular, sadece filmfreeway.com web sitesinden kabul edilecektir.

3. İngilizce ve Türkçe filmler hariç, tüm başvuruların İngilizce altyazılı olması ve Ingilizce .srt dosyası dahil edilmesi zorunludur. İngilizce altyazılı olmayan filmler değerlendirilmeyecektir.

4. Başvurunun Foça Film Günleri’nin seçkisine alınması halinde, aşağıdaki malzemelerin en geç 15 Haziran 2026’e kadar Foça Film Platformuna gönderilmesi gerekmektedir: .mov veya .mp4 HD 264 veya HD 265 indirilebilecek altyazısız film dosyası linki, 3 film karesi (jpeg) ve/ya film klibi, yönetmenin fotoğrafı ve biyografisi. (Türkçe olan filmler için hem İngilizce hem Türkçe altyazılı .srt dosyaları temin edilmesi zorunludur.) Malzemeleri zamanında gönderilmeyen filmlerin programın son halinde yer alması mümkün olmayabilir.

5. Gönderilen filmlerin eser sahipleri, eserlerin kendilerine ait olduğunu beyan ve taahhüt etmiş sayılır. Telif hakları konusunda başvuru sahibi her türlü hukuki ve cezai sorumluluğun kendisine ait olduğunu kabul eder. Gönderilecek belgesel filmlerin özgün olmayan metin, görüntü, müzik, vb. kullanımlarından doğacak her türlü telif hakları ile ilgili konular film sahibinin sorumluluğundadır. Foça Uluslararası Arkeoloji ve Kültürel Miras Belgesel Film Günleri bu durumdan hukuken sorumlu tutulamaz.

6. Başvuru sahibi, Foça Film Platformu'na başvurduğu filmin 14-18 Ekim 2026 tarihleri arasında Foça Film Günlerinde gösterim hakkını vermektedir. Ayrıca, başvuru formunda özellikle aksini belirtmedikçe, 14-18 Ekim 2026 tarihleri arasında bir kez çevrimiçi gösterim hakkı ile Şubat-Nisan 2027 tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilecek olan “Foça Film Günlerinin En İyileri” etkinliği kapsamında bir kez gösterim hakkı da vermektedir.

7. Başvuru sahibi, başvuruya ait fotoğraf ve film kliplerinin sergide, web sitesinde, sosyal medya hesapları ve benzeri platformlar üzerinden tanıtım amacıyla paylaşılması konusunda Foça Film Platformu’nu yetkilendirecektir.

8. Foça Film Günleri 2026’ün başvurulara ilişkin verdiği bütün kararlar nihaidir, itiraz edilemez ve herkes için bağlayıcıdır. Başvuran adaylar, tüm koşulları kabul etmiş sayılacaktır.

    Festivale gideceğimiz belli olduğu günden, son güne kadar son derece nazik ve hassasiyetli bir şekilde festival ekibi ilgilendi.. Hakikaten çok güzel bir deneyimdi. Gösterimimiz de çok güzel geçti. Gerek Festivalin sanat yönetmeni Deborah Hanım, gerekse ekipten herkes, şahit olduk bir dakika bile durmadan çalıştılar. Festival hakkında herşey olumluydu. Mutlu gittik, mutlu ayrıldık. Ayrıca sektör profesyonellerinden mühim insanlarla tanışma şansımız oldu. Sonsuz teşekkürler.

    Foça Film Günleri, dar bütçelerine rağmen gönüllü ekibiyle harika işler çıkartıyor. Bütün konuklara kendilerini özel hissettirdiler. Misafirperverlikleri çok iyiydi ve samimi bir ortam vardı. Filmlere katılan seyirci oranı da hiç fena değil. Festivalin sponsor destekleri ve Foça'nın güzelliği ile birlikte mutlaka gidilmesi gereken bir festival.

    Foca Film Days is a festival that successfully works for uniting people trough culture and archeology!
    I went to the festival to present my documentary film and I stayed in Foca for 1 week, in which I met amazing people and many colleagues from various countries such as England, Belgium, Greece and others. The organisers are very welcoming and helping. The place is very beautiful with great food. I had the pleasure to be part of a workshop about documentary filmmaking that was very useful.
