Are you a writer who just finished your script and want to get it made? Do you have a handful of great scripts collecting dust and have no idea what to do with them? Looking for an opportunity to get heard and discovered? First Read Radio has your back.
Over the last year, First Read Radio has developed short film scripts into well-crafted radio plays and premiered them on our podcast distributed by FilmShortage.com, Spotify, and iTunes.
What is a radio play? You can think of it as an immersive table read professionally recorded by a team of award-winning actors, directors, and sound designers.

We started First Read Radio because we love short films, and are passionate about providing good stories with a means to be shared and heard. Plus, the process of making radio plays offers a fun way to practice the craft of storytelling for ourselves. We figure it’s a win-win for writers and us.
We accept submissions year-round to give writers the opportunity to submit whenever they are ready. Our team will read your short film and select scripts based on the quality of originality, character, plot, structure, and market potential.
So, if you have a script you feel should be heard, we want to make it!
All scripts must be submitted in English, and entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars. Entry in the competition is void where prohibited by law.
All writers’ names should be listed in the online entry form. By submitting, the entrant warrants that all writers have authorized the submission.
Paid submissions do not guarantee selection.
To enter, you must submit in the following format only: PDF
Scripts cannot exceed more than 20 pages.

Once a script has been submitted, we will not accept revised drafts. If you wish to submit a revised draft of your script, you must enter it as a new submission.
There is no limit to the number of scripts you may submit.
First Read Radio does not share your screenplay with anyone except the staff and producers without prior permission.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
The screenplay submitted must not have been previously sold or produced.
If your script is selected, you will be contacted using the email address provided on the corresponding entry form.
The writer agrees that should their material be chosen, the writer shall review and sign a Production Agreement before the script can be produced as part of the award.
The Production Agreement, in part, states that the Writer gives permission to the First Read Radio producers to develop the chosen script into a radio play.
All ownership and rights to the script being produced and submitted to this contest remain with the writer(s).
Writers will be given access to key art and final episode files for use as they deem necessary.
