Now in its fourth year, Film Blast is Detroit’s only festival dedicated entirely to local work. Founded by filmmakers, for filmmakers, we’re ethically run, community focused, and a lot of fun!

Our festival is more than just screening films. It’s a one-day celebration of Detroit’s indie film scene, featuring a lineup of local films, found footage, VHS horror, and an afterparty where filmmakers can connect and unwind.

Think of us as an indie film third space. Film Blast is a creative hub to share your work, meet fellow artists, and be part of something that’s authentically Detroit. We can’t wait to see what you’ve made!

Awards & Prizes

The Film Blast Audience Award is voted on by the audience and given to the filmmaker during the festival. The prize is a gift bag with from local shops (estimated value $200).

Rules & Terms

Film Blast Detroit seeks short films from the Metro Detroit area. We want to celebrate the talent of Detroit and Michigan! If you feel like your film captures the local spirit, please submit it.

Non-English language films must have subtitles.

ACCEPTABLE EXHIBITION FORMATS
MP4 or .mov; Apple Pro Res 422 or H264; 1920x1080 or 1080p 24-bit audio at 48khz.
