The Festival of Time is a festival that seeks to reveal a reflection on the nature of Time and on how it is perceived.

There is no experience of time without the body. It is the body that records duration, that absorbs the shock of change, that carries the scars of what has passed and the vibrations of what is approaching. Cinema is born inside this simple, relentless truth: every image passes through a body, every story settles into memory, every act of seeing sets something in motion that we cannot fully control.

Time, then, is not an idea: it is a presence pushing its way through flesh, shaping our vulnerability and exposing us to the unexpected. It is fragile, as we are. And in this fragility lie the most honest possibilities of cinema: not to hold on to time, but to listen to it; not to freeze the past, but to accept that every memory returns altered; not to seek protection, but to let the cracks reveal what smooth surfaces conceal.

When a film moves through us, it does so physically. It shifts the rhythm of the breath, stretches or tightens anticipation, leaves a mark we do not always know how to name. And when bodies gather in the same room, a shared time emerges—one that exists nowhere else: a common, precarious, unrepeatable duration that shapes a temporary community made of glances, silences, reactions intertwining without needing words.

The Festival del Tempo (Festival of Time) begins here, in this zone of contact: a place where time is not managed but lived; where memory is a living organism rewritten with every viewing; where vulnerability is the doorway to an authenticity that cannot be faked; where community forms not as a concept but as a concrete experience of time held together.
In this festival, cinema does not explain time: it makes it felt. It brings it to the skin, makes it pulse, lets it enter. And for a moment, we stop chasing it and allow ourselves to be traversed.

Il Festival del Tempo è un festival che cerca di disvelare una riflessione sulla natura del Tempo e sulla sua percezione.

Non c’è esperienza del tempo senza corpo. È il corpo che registra la durata, che sente l’urto del cambiamento, che custodisce le cicatrici di ciò che è passato e le vibrazioni di ciò che arriva. Il cinema nasce dentro questa verità semplice e inesorabile: ogni immagine attraversa un corpo, ogni storia si deposita nella memoria, ogni visione mette in movimento qualcosa che non possiamo controllare del tutto.

Il tempo, allora, non è un’idea: è una presenza che si fa strada nella carne, che modella la nostra vulnerabilità e ci espone all’imprevisto. È fragile, come lo siamo noi. E proprio in questa fragilità si aprono le possibilità più oneste del cinema: non trattenere il tempo, ma ascoltarlo; non fissare il passato, ma accettare che ogni memoria ritorni trasformata; non cercare protezioni, ma lasciare che le crepe dicano quello che le superfici non mostrano.
Quando un film ci attraversa, lo fa in un modo fisico. Cambia il ritmo del respiro, dilata o stringe l’attesa, incide un segno che non sempre sappiamo nominare. E quando i corpi si raccolgono nella stessa sala, nasce un tempo condiviso che non esiste al di fuori di quel contesto: un tempo comune, precario e irripetibile, che fa emergere una comunità temporanea fatta di sguardi, silenzi, reazioni che si intrecciano senza bisogno di parole.

Il Festival del Tempo nasce qui, in questa zona di contatto: un luogo dove il tempo non è gestito, ma vissuto; dove la memoria è un organismo vivo che si riscrive a ogni visione; dove la vulnerabilità è la porta d’accesso a un’autenticità che non si può simulare; dove la comunità si forma non come concetto, ma come esperienza concreta di durata condivisa.
Il cinema, in questo festival, non spiega il tempo: lo fa sentire. Lo mette sulla pelle, lo fa pulsare, lo lascia entrare. E noi, per qualche istante, smettiamo di inseguirlo e ci lasciamo attraversare.

Rules & Terms

Welcome to the Festival of Time. Please adhere to the following guidelines. By participating in the competition, you agree to comply with these rules.

Eligibility

1.The festival is open to filmmakers/directors aged 18 and over, as well as production companies.

2. Films must be original.

3. Films must have English or Italian subtitles.

4. Each participant may submit a maximum of 1 film per section.

5. The maximum length of a short film is 25 minutes.

6. For the Feature-Length Documentary section: maximum duration 150 minutes.
7. Eligible production year for short films: from 2022 to the date of publication of this call.

Submission

1. Entries must be submitted through FilmFreeway.

2. Submission is free until February 22, 2026, at 10 pm..

3. Since festivals on FilmFreeway can receive a maximum of 3,000 free submissions per submission season, starting from February 22 participation in the Festival del Tempo will require a $5 submission fee.
4. The submission deadline is set for March 30, 2026.

Judging

1. Films will be evaluated by a jury composed of industry professionals, such as producers, screenwriters, and directors.

2. Films will be selected based on various criteria, including film quality, story concept, characters, and adherence to the festival theme.

3. The films of the official selection will be announced by May 15, 2026.
4. The jury’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.
5. The selected films will be screened in Rome in the month of June and will be evaluated by a technical jury (composed of industry experts) and by a popular jury (during the screenings, viewers will be able to vote using an application on the festival’s website). The decisions of the two juries will lead to the selection of the winners in each category, whose films will be screened at a gala evening.

General terms and conditions

1. By participating in the present call of the Festival del Tempo, the applicant authorizes the organization to screen the short film at all festival venues, with no fees or compensation claimed for the screening.
2. The Festival organization reserves the right to make changes to the call should the need arise.
3. All films of the official selection will be announced on the festival website, social media channels, and through press outlets.

Privacy

1. Participants agree that the personal information provided may be used by the festival organization for the purposes of managing the competition, communicating selections, and promoting the submitted works.

2. All personal data processing activities will be carried out in full compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Participants have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data at any time.

Rights of Use of the Works

By registering for the Festival, participants grant the organization a non-exclusive right to use excerpts of the selected works (up to 60 seconds) for promotional activities related to the Festival, or to request such excerpts from the selected participant. This includes publication on websites, social media channels, and printed materials. The organization undertakes not to use the complete works without the explicit consent of the rights holders.

Promotional Use of Materials

The Festival Direction reserves the right to use, free of charge and for promotional purposes, excerpts of the selected works, photographs, and all submitted materials, both in print and across other multimedia channels. This promotional use aims to increase the visibility of the Festival and the participating works.

Participants’ Responsibilities

Participants are responsible for the content of their works and must ensure that they do not violate any legal regulations, including but not limited to copyright and privacy laws.

Benvenuti al Festival del Tempo. Vi preghiamo di attenervi alle seguenti linee guida. Partecipando alla competizione, accettate di attenervi alle presenti regole.

Ammissione

1. Il festival è aperto a filmmaker/registi che abbiano compiuto 18 anni di età e a case di produzione. 

2. I film devono essere originali.

3. I film devono avere sottotitoli in inglese o in italiano.

4. Ogni partecipante può presentare un massimo di 1 film per sezione. 

5. La durata massima del cortometraggio è di 25 minuti. 

6. Per la sezione Documentario lungo: durata massima 150 minuti.
7. L’anno di produzione del cortometraggio: dal 2022 alla data di pubblicazione del presente bando.

Invio delle Opere

1. Le iscrizioni devono essere effettuate tramite FilmFreeway.

2. L’iscrizione è gratuita fino al 22 febbraio 2026, ore 22.00.
3. Poichè i festival su filmfreeway possono ricevere un massimo di 3.000 iscrizioni gratuite per stagione di iscrizione., dal 22 febbraio la partecipazione al Festival del Tempo prevede una quota di iscrizione di 5 dollari.
4. La scadenza per l’iscrizione è fissata al 30 marzo 2026.

Valutazione

1. I film saranno valutati da una giuria composta da professionisti del settore, come produttori, sceneggiatori e registi.

2. I film saranno selezionati sulla base di vari criteri, quali la qualità del film, il concept della storia e i personaggi, aderenza al tema del festival. 

3. I film della selezione ufficiale saranno annunciati entro il 15 maggio 2026. 

4. Il giudizio della giuria è insindacabile e definitivo.
5. I film selezionati saranno proiettati a Roma nel mese di giugno e saranno valutati da una Giuria tecnica (formata da esperti del settore) e da una Giuria popolare (durante le proiezioni gli spettatori potranno votare con una applicazione sul sito del festival). I giudizi delle due giurie porterà a nominare i vincitori per ogni categoria che saranno proiettati un una serata di gala.

Regole generali

1. Partecipando al presente bando del Festival del Tempo, si autorizza l'organizzazione alla proiezione del cortometraggio in tutte le sedi del festival, senza nulla a pretendere per la proiezione.
2. L’organizzazione del Festival si riserva il diritto di apportare variazioni al bando qualora se ne presentasse la necessità.
3. Tutti i film selezionati saranno comunicati sul sito del festival, sui social network e sui canali stampa.

Privacy

1.I partecipanti accettano che le informazioni personali fornite possano essere utilizzate dall’organizzazione del festival a scopi di gestione del concorso, comunicazione delle selezioni e promozione delle opere.

2. Tutte le operazioni di trattamento dei dati personali saranno svolte nel pieno rispetto del Regolamento Generale sulla Protezione dei Dati (GDPR) dell’Unione Europea. I partecipanti hanno il diritto di richiedere l’accesso, la rettifica o la cancellazione dei loro dati personali in qualsiasi momento.

Diritti d’Uso delle Opere

Con l’iscrizione al Festival, i partecipanti conferiscono all’organizzazione il diritto non esclusivo di utilizzare estratti delle opere selezionate (fino a 60 secondi) per attività promozionali legate al Festival o di chiedere estratti delle stesse al partecipante selezionato. Questo include la pubblicazione su siti web, canali social, e materiali di stampa. L’organizzazione si impegna a non utilizzare le opere complete senza il consenso esplicito dei detentori dei diritti.

Utilizzo Promozionale del Materiale

1. La Direzione del Festival si riserva il diritto di utilizzare gratuitamente a scopi promozionali, estratti delle opere selezionate, fotografie e tutto il materiale pervenuto, sia a mezzo stampa che su altri canali multimediali. Questo uso promozionale ha lo scopo di aumentare la visibilità del festival e delle opere partecipanti.

Responsabilità dei Partecipanti

I partecipanti sono responsabili del contenuto delle loro opere e devono garantire che non violino nessuna normativa legale, inclusi ma non limitati ai diritti d’autore e alla privacy.
