"FOGFEST PROVES THAT NEWFOUNDLAND’S HORROR SCENE IS ON FIRE. While very much a DIY endeavor, this festival looked and felt world-class. In an industry mired in ego and endless elbow-rubbing, FogFest put the focus back where it should be – on art and havin’ a time." - Jessica Buck, Rue Morgue

Steeped in the fog of Canada's most easterly point, on an island surrounded by the roaring Atlantic Ocean and enveloped by the darkness of dense, sprawling woods, FOGFEST was born; an independent horror film festival in one of the oldest and spookiest cities in North America—St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Founded in 2021 by GRIND MIND, the fourth edition of our festival expands with a five-day event at the historic and newly renovated Majestic Theatre, in the heart of the city's downtown. FOGFEST IV aims to showcase the next wave of genre creators from the island and around the world. Packed with screenings & events (Drag shows! VHS swap!) we're bringing an experience for horror filmmakers and fans to connect and celebrate the culture and creatures that make us who we are.

  • I had an incredible experience bringing my short film Blueberries for Iris to Fog Fest. The Grind Mind team are kind, communicative, and passionate about film. I couldn't have felt more welcomed and supported! This is a festival with a lot of heart and respect for artists, with great networking and learning opportunities for all.
    Thank you Fog Fest!!

Been attending horror festivals for the better part of a decade and can safely say Fogfest is one of the best up and coming events out there. Fantastic presentation and filmmaker focused with a wonderfully diverse array of programming. Extremely welcoming and supportive, they showcase why the horror community is incredible. Not to be missed if you have the chance to attend, can't wait to see what's in store for the future!

Fantastic horror festival in an amazing location run by awesome people. Fogfest hosted the Canadian premiere of our film The Shade, and the whole Fogfest / Grind Mind crew were super welcoming and helpful throughout. They’re completely dedicated to putting on an outstanding festival with films and events they really believe in, and they’re very quickly and noticeably raising the bar every year. The organizers are all talented filmmakers themselves (check out The Hag from Grind Mind) and will have your back to show your film in the best light possible. Don’t hesitate to send these guys your film - Fogfest has something special about it, and you’re gonna wanna get in on it early. We had a great time and plan to come back next year for Fogfest 4!

One of the best festivals I have ever attended. The professionalism, the atmosphere, the organization, theatre. All of it was a 12/10 experience and I will work to be able to come back as much as possible. Every single person involved in running this festival is top notch and I can't recommend submitting and attending this festival enough. Thank you for such an amazing experience and I can't wait to come out again!
