Proudly celebrating its 2st year as a festival, Festival de Sorocaba serves as a cinematic cultural model for emerging filmmakers and screenwriters and supports their career goals by fusing today's cinema pioneers with the richness of cinematic heritage, building and developing the cinematic community.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Sorocaba Film Festival — Celebrating Cinema and Culture in the Heart of São Paulo’s Countryside

The Sorocaba Film Festival, conceived and established in 2017, will reach its second official edition in 2025, solidifying itself as an important platform for artistic and cultural expression in the interior of São Paulo state. After years of careful planning, this event has become a unique platform for the exhibition, appreciation, and celebration of contemporary cinema, with special attention to emerging filmmakers from around the world. Sorocaba, a city rich in history and cultural vibrancy, is home to traditions, arts, and talents that deserve recognition and celebration. Inspired by this wealth, the Sorocaba Festival was created to honour this local identity while connecting filmmakers, screenwriters, and audiences in a unique experience of dialogue and cultural exchange.

MISSION
Our mission is to promote cinema as a transformative and inclusive art form, offering space for new and diverse voices within the global audiovisual landscape. We seek to foster cinematic culture, support the emergence of new talent, and strengthen the creative community by encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and cultural exchange.

VISION
We aim to be a festival of reference, recognised for excellence in curation, transparency, and integrity in its processes, as well as for its ability to reveal and nurture emerging talents. We aspire to establish Sorocaba as a significant cultural hub, capable of inspiring and connecting artists, professionals, and audiences in a continuous celebration of the seventh art.

The SFF values the plurality of world cinema, encouraging audiovisual productions that challenge traditional narratives and promote cultural diversity. In 2023, its inaugural official edition presented a carefully curated selection of high-quality works from diverse regions across the globe. Emerging filmmakers received recognition, screening opportunities, certificates, and awards, with the clear objective of providing them the platform they need to shine.

In 2025, we reaffirm this commitment: our second festival will continue to be a welcoming and professional environment that prioritises innovation, talent, and ethics. The jury, composed of experienced professionals dedicated to diversity and transparency, will ensure fair and genuine opportunities for all submissions.

FOR SUBMISSION:
1. Submissions will only be accepted by FilmFreeway.

2. Shipping format - Films must be submitted ONLY through the ONLINE screener.
We do not accept movies sent on DVD. We do not accept later cuts or fuller versions of submitted films, therefore changing or updating the link originally submitted is not accepted. Only one version of the film will be analyzed by the programmers.

3. Shipping Eligibility - There is no film premiere policy, they may have been shown at other Festivals and/or online, films from 2022, 2023 and 2024 will be accepted.

4. Subtitles in Portuguese is mandatory, the subtitles must be burned into the video or sent via file (for international films).
The caption can also be sent separately to festivaldesorocaba@gmail.com or made available for download.

5. Submission Fee - All submissions for festival are to be paid through FilmFreeway platform. The submission fee is non-refundable.

6. Film Selection - Entries are reviewed and selected according to the following criteria:
- Narrative quality, production values, boldness, courage and depth of the story.

7. Notification - The festival informs all participants whether the film was successful or not. Successful entries will receive important information about the Festival, press and publicity, contact information and how to make the most of participating in the Festival.

Selected films MUST provide subtitle files in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The caption can be sent separately to festivaldesorocaba@gmail.com or made available for download.

2. Festival Screenings - Selected Films ONLY
Selected films MUST provide an online player for their selected film, link must be sent to festivaldesorocaba@gmail.com

3. Scheduling - Selected Films ONLY
Screenings are scheduled at the discretion of the festival. Whilst every effort is made to adhere to the published schedule, the festival reserves the right to make changes at any time and for any reason. The festival will not be responsible for any costs claimed as a result of a schedule change. No film can be withdrawn from the festival program after its selection.

4. Promotion - Selected Films ONLY
Selected films must acknowledge that the festival reserves the right to promote the films on social media using images and videos provided by the filmmakers.
Images and videos should be sent to festivaldesorocaba@gmail.com (please mark the name of the film and the filmmaker).

5. Festival Screenings - Selected Films ONLY
Selected films MUST provide a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in order to be screened at the Festival. The film title MUST be clearly labelled on the DCP.

6. Festival Venue - Selected Films ONLY
The venue for the 1st Festival de Sorocaba will be at Vila Terron, in the city of Sorocaba, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
In case of any change of address or unforeseen event, we will notify all those selected in advance.

Screenplays should be properly formatted.
