Deep Focus Film Festival aims to foster an environment in which independent filmmakers can better understand the audience’s reactions to their work. We don’t simply accept films and pit them in a fight to the death for an award and prize money.

Our goal is to give each film selected a thoughtful response from a professional filmmaker. We understand that each of you have invested your time and creative efforts turning your ideas into reality, and we would like to reward that effort with the respect it deserves. Judges' comments, ratings and/or notes will be made available upon receipt of a Festival review on FilmFreeway.

As to the films we accept….suffice it to say, we are looking for the good ones. In a time where far more content is created than can be watched, ask yourself this question; “Does my film meet the standard that I hold other filmmakers to in order to capture my attention?” If the answer is “no,” then I suggest some other festival.

This may only be our second year but make no mistake— we are prepared to throw a unique and intimate event, the likes of which you have never experienced on the festival circuit. Our Williamsburg, Brooklyn venue, EASYLOVER, has a full bar, kitchen and a cozy private space for the screenings. Stay tuned for more news on our premiere event as the dates draw closer.

Deep Focus Film Festival hosts a live screening in front of an audience consisting of film fans, industry personnel, and of course our hand selected jury, responsible for selecting films for awards. These screenings will showcase the top films submitted, and provide the optimal venue for selection of our Jury Award winners. 100% of the net total of submission fees are allocated exclusively for the event costs.

Generally, the films that are selected will be among those screened at the festival, but the lineup and screening selection may vary. All finalists remain in consideration for awards but will not screen unless otherwise notified. Finalists will receive a laurel for promotional use.

We had a great time screening Yew Boys at this festival. Not only did we get to see a ton of other great projects, we were able to meet some cool people. Drink tickets and some snacks were provided, which was great for hospitality. Communication was excellent as well. The only thing I'd suggest for next year was to enlist a panel of judges and give out some awards, but other than that no complaints!
