"You have something really special here!" - Joe Bob Briggs

Crimson Screen Horror Film Fest is South Carolina's first and largest horror film festival! The 2019 festival will take place over three days in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina and will feature some of the best independent horror films from all over the world. We will be screening all of our Official Selections at South of Broadway Theater located in the heart of Park Circle.

Forget the Oscars! We have the "Crimmy's"! All Official Selections (films and screenplays) will be competing at a chance for a Crimmy in over 20 categories. Our Crimmy trophies are designed by "The Conjuring" and "Annabelle" special effects artist Tony Rosen, who also designed the famous "Annabelle" doll for both films. Each trophy is handmade and signed by Tony himself.

Sponsored in part by ShortsTV, the world's largest distributor of short films, all submitted and accepted short films have the chance for worldwide broadcast deals on their cable channel, ShortsTV, which plays Oscar winning short films all over the globe. Crimson Screen is the ONLY horror film fest that ShortsTV is sponsoring. This is a huge opportunity for filmmakers to have their work seen worldwide!

Screenplay winners will also compete to win scriptwriting software from FinalDraft as well as free listings on InkTip, where producers go for scripts and writers. Producers have made more than 300 films from scripts and writers they found through InkTip. All official selections and screenplay finalists will be given a free 3-month subscription to iPitch.tv as well!

In 2017 "Best of South Carolina" named Crimson Screen one of the top 10 festivals in South Carolina and in 2015 readers of HORROR SOCIETY voted us their 2nd favorite horror film festival in the USA! Festival attendees come out to walk the "dREaD Carpet" dressed in their favorite costumes and get to meet the filmmakers during our mixers and Q&A sessions after film screenings.

Overall Rating
  • Having gone two years in a row now, I can say that this festival is quickly growing to be one of the top horror events on the indie circuit. Not only has it inspired an entire class of new independent filmmakers in the Carolina region, but it continues to get better and better with the caliber of films shown and the expansive networking opportunities. I met a lot of cool folks last year, but this year was just on another level - I couldn't walk five feet without bumping into some of the best indie horror filmmakers working today.

The films selected feature a diverse variety of voices and perspectives, some of which have been unrepresented in horror in the past (as a female filmmaker, it's great to see so many female-driven films I can relate to, and not just a bunch of women getting axed). This year also had a good variety of horror - slashers, post-apocalyptic despair, science fiction, anthologies, psychological thrillers, comedies, supernatural stuff, and even animation. There are very few "missable" films, so it makes it kind of hard to go out and get dinner sometimes!

Overall, it's definitely worth the money, and you can even submit early to get a super low entry fee.

I don't even know where to begin with my Crimson Screen experience. Tommy and Robbie went to such great lengths to make sure all the filmmakers and attendees felt welcomed and supported and all the other filmmakers were so gracious and cool it was unbelievable. This is a very intimate and personal festival. The screenings were all packed and everyone supported each others films which is a rarity at a lot of fests I've been to in the past. The curation was fantastic, the screening and audio quality was great, and they even had a popcorn machine set up all weekend where you could grab free popcorn during all the movies which was a really nice touch. Our film, I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday, was lucky enough to bring home the award for Best Feature and Best Actress, but getting a Crimmy (which are super badass trophies by the way) was just the icing on the cake. We made friends with so many awesome filmmakers and got to talk shop with them, and THAT was the real prize for me. Getting to meet Mark Patton from Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (who was this year's special guest) was an amazing experience and was one of the highlights of the weekend for us. Long story short, Crimson Screen should be at the top of your list when you finish your short or feature. You will leave with far more than just another set of laurels on your poster, you'll leave with a new family.

We have attended the Crimson Screen Film Festival for several years now and it never disappoints. Crimson is all about indie film and Tommy and Robbie have really made a place for indie filmmakers. The crowd is so energized and just being there is inspiring. The film lineup is always amazing. No matter what kind of horror you like, there is always something for you. The venue is ample but intimate and you feel right at home when you settle in to watch. If you’re considering submitting to this festival or if you just love to watch horror, do it. You won’t be disappointed when you attend. Thanks Tommy and Robbie for all you do for the indie film community. We look forward to next year!
