Festival founded in 2004, being the first in the country to focus on genre cinema, in this case, horror cinema. It is organized by the Corporacion Cultural Municipal (CCM), dependent on the Ilustre Municipalidad de Valdivia. The objective of the event is to be a space for the dissemination of the horror and fantasy genre from the local, regional, national and Latin American to the world, expanding this dissemination not only around cinema, but also to other arts that use horror. as the main common thread.
The beginnings of the festival are associated with the experience of its organizers in the “Valdivia Ciudad Universitaria” program developed by the Municipality. In the first stage, CineTerror Valdivia was aimed at showing horror films, for which it had the collaboration of some of the filmmakers from CineAdiccion de Santiago in its first editions. Since 2016, the festival has adopted a competitive nature, opening a call to select short and feature films, thus promoting independent cinema.
It includes a 2-minute short film competition, which has cash prizes for first, second and third place, awarded by a jury made up of local and national filmmakers and personalities from festivals and the audiovisual media. In addition, a short film in this competition receives the “audience favorite” recognition, chosen through popular vote among those who attend the performance.
