Imagine: a movie flashes before your eyes as a horde of abominable creatures lurk vigilantly from the darkness from behind the projector screen. They are watching your every move, waiting for the right moment to POUNCE with bone-chilling films and creepy company. This special weekend of frightful Cat Fly monsters and only the creepiest, most uncanny indie films of the South will screen and then haunt you forever. Welcome to the strangest festival of your life... Cat Fly Halloween.

Cat Fly Halloween is a special iteration of Cat Fly Film Fest to honor camp film's undeniable place within film culture and celebrate the spooky season as a community.

Cat Fly is an Asheville-based film festival that serves up and coming indie filmmakers of the Southeast Region, cultivating community and the passion of homegrown filmmaking. We have been serving the North Carolina community since 2017.

We classify ourselves as a non-competitive film festival, as we hope to foster a mutually beneficial community of filmmakers, programmers and film-goers.

Submission Requirements:

-Independently produced

-Short films and music videos appropriate for spooky season will be considered (emphasis on horror, sci-fi, experimental, and films that are generally uncanny in nature).

-Films needed in QuickTime ProRes file format.

-MUST be associated with the Southeast region of the United States in a significant way (i.e. film was shot in the Southeast; directors, producers, actors are from or based in the SE; the story is about Southern culture; etc.)

-Please include your FILM POSTER, LOGLINE, any BEHIND THE SCENES PHOTOS and HOW TO CREDIT YOUR FILM ON THE POSTER IF SELECTED with your submission.

-By submitting, the submitter and filmmaker(s) agree to grant Cat Fly Film Fest permission to share provided imagery for marketing and promotional purposes of the festival. If no film poster or BTS photos are provided at submission, Cat Fly will not be able to promote your film to our audience.

Notes:

  • Catfly has been a staple film festival for indie film makers every year I’ve been. This year, I had the privilege of attending and could not recommend the experience enough.

  • The vibe of this fest and it's family is outstanding. The communication and care they take of the filmmakers made me feel right at home. The really cool bonus is that the town of Ashville is an artist based community, so the venue was filled with non filmmakers coming out to support this organization and see some films. They curated a great show, plus they have a pup as a mascot. Sign me up for every year.

  • I am so glad I was able to make it to this festival in person during the pandemic years. Everything was perfectly organized. The screenings felt celebratory, inclusive, and joyous. It was an honor to have my film selected.
