Festival Dates are August 29th - 31st, 2024
Camp Horror is The Roxy Theater’s love letter to the Montana horror community. After starting a very successful monthly b-horror movie series, it was obvious there was a hunger for the grimy, over the top films that usually never see the light of day, let alone in a historic art house theater. This festival is completely driven by the passion of the people in Missoula, Montana who show up to celebrate horror every chance they get.
Camp Horror specifically focuses on the campy horror movies of the past, while highlighting where the genre is going with newer submitted films. All packaged as a summer camp experience, the festival is filled with more than just theater screenings. On top of sold out films, the festival has had comedy shows, s’mores parties, exclusive beer, live podcasts and river floats that show off the beauty of Montana.
While the festival line up is still a work in progress, the overall theme and vision will be surrounded by the theme of international horror. We'll be screening the Japanese classic "House" (1977) in 35mm and the Mexican film "Santo and Blue Demon vs. Dracula and the Wolf Man" (1973) digitally. But don't fear, this doesn't mean we will exclusively be accepting international films.
Camp Horror shorts blocks have always been extremely successful, so this year we will be adding additional shorts blocks, which we're excited to say means accepting more short films!
Camp Horror is committed to making this festival accessible to all and will make accommodations when need be. Because of this, films submitted ARE REQUIRED to have an open-captioned version of their film for the festival.
This is a strictly in-person festival due to the community aspect. The theater’s covid protocols have kept past festival goers safe, and worse case scenario the festival would be canceled if it felt unsafe.
Come visit a beautiful city and network with the up and coming film scene! Be apart of the only horror film festival in the whole state, and keep an eye out for the Sack Lunch Slasher.
