BIMIFF (Brazil Independent Magazine and International Film Festival) is a well-established online and itinerant competitive film festival and editorial platform dedicated to discovering, celebrating, and amplifying independent cinema from around the world. More than a festival, BIMIFF is a space where films are not only evaluated, but truly seen, discussed, and valued within an international community of filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts, while also creating bridges between global independent cinema and new audiences in Brazil.

Operating primarily as an online festival, BIMIFF was designed to respect and protect the premiere status and exclusivity often required by filmmakers, distributors, and sales agents. All submitted films are screened privately by our curatorial team and professional jury, ensuring thoughtful evaluation while safeguarding each project’s distribution path. Alongside this digital structure, BIMIFF also carries an itinerant vocation, aiming to bring outstanding independent films to different regions of Brazil — especially to the countryside — helping foster a more diverse, plural, and accessible cinematic audience beyond major urban centers.

At its core is BIMIFF Magazine, a well-established digital publication focused on the 7th Art. With over 12 published issues and more than 11,000 readers worldwide, the magazine offers in-depth film reviews, exclusive interviews, critical essays, and articles exploring the artistic and social impact of cinema. Complementing the magazine, our newly updated website has grown into a dynamic platform with thousands of daily visitors, featuring news, articles, press releases, and curated spotlights dedicated to independent films and filmmakers.

All films submitted to BIMIFF are evaluated by a professional jury composed of filmmakers and industry professionals. Awards are presented quarterly across main, special, and individual categories. Throughout our 10-month submission cycle, winners from each quarterly edition are automatically nominated for the Best of the Season Awards, ensuring consistent engagement, timely results, and ongoing recognition. Official selections, winners, and nominations are announced every three months through our website and social media platforms.

In line with our commitment to accessibility and diversity, BIMIFF accepts short, medium-length, and feature films of all genres, produced within the last 10 years. Submissions are accepted exclusively via FilmFreeway. We do not accept political or religious propaganda, advertising content, or pornography.

BIMIFF is built on the belief that independent cinema deserves more than a single moment of visibility. Through our festival, magazine, editorial initiatives, and itinerant exhibitions, we aim to create meaningful opportunities, strengthen visibility, and cultivate a lasting filmmaking community, connecting independent films with audiences wherever cinema is needed most.

All the winners of every category (main, special, and individual) will earn a “Certificate of Award” and its respective Laurel.

  • Festival tried their best. Thank you. BUT due to long delays in everything, the experience was lacking of fulfilment. I got information about the results few months after in this "monthly" festival and the possibility to review this festival more than 1 year after, meaning long delays. I am sure festival really tried but it was just not efficient enough. I was ready to invest even more money for their services at first (interviews, articles etc), but because everything was so delayed, I just did not feel the value in it. But thank you for the experience anyway.
