Asia Peace Film Festival – Quetta Edition (2019) is dedicated to celebrate the creative and diverse credentials of Quetta recognizing the city’s placement as a ‘cultural kaleidoscope’ of Balochistan.
Quetta is the vibrant capital of Pakistan’s largest province – Balochistan, with 44% of Pakistan's landmass and 770-km long coast line.
Being a proud custodian of 9000-years old Neolithic Mehragarh civilization, Balochistan’s premier art of story-telling remains one of the highly acclaimed modes of creative expressions which make story telling a literary and musical genre as well as a cultural and entertainment event for the people at large. Nar Sur (flute and tune) has been recognized as a unique musical genre embedded in Baluchistan’s tradition of oral transmission of history. Balochistan is also famous for handicrafts skills where a variety of colourful handicrafts in embroidery and needlework are designed in different areas with elaborate geometric and intricate designs.
Known as the only high-altitude major city of Pakistan, Quetta is not only the socio-political hub of the province; it also is the creative and artistic capital of Balochistan. Quetta city is traditionally known as the "Fruit Garden of Pakistan" due to numerous fruit orchards in and around it, and the large variety of fruits and dried fruit products produced there. The city is near the Bolan Pass route which was once one of the major gateways from Central Asia to South Asia.
Quetta is also an inimitable point of creative convergence and a true melting-pot of diverse cultures of the province and country.
To strength the plural, diverse and inclusive identity of Quetta, the APFF would be bringing together a large number of filmmakers, artists, animators, performers, media wizards, parliamentarians, academics, peace activists and dynamic students of cinematography from all over the country and across Asia.
