The African American Film Critics Association is excited to announce the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition. Our goal is to provide a platform for emerging creatives to explore themes around social justice with original film shorts that highlight + offer solutions to issues pertaining to incarceration, the environment and sustainability, oppression, race and fascism, the arts animal rights, and lifestyles, corruption within the system and so much more. As a movement, social justice promotes a global culture where equalities achieved on all levels. Selected films will challenge societal structures in America on a macro and micro level and make the art of filmmaking an integral part of social change.

AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition
Organizers may add to or amend these rules at any time prior to the beginning of the Official Time Period.
Organizer: African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA)
Below are the rules that govern the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition. A judging panel, determined at the sole discretion of the Organizer, will select the films that will move on to the next level of this Program.

1. To Enter Aspiring filmmakers (“Entrants”) are invited to enter the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition in the United States, by following the upload instructions found on http://www.aafca.com/. All Entrants must create and submit their film short maximum length 5 minutes is the recommended length for submitted shorts. All initial entries must be videos that include one of the following themes:
A. CLIMATE CRISES
B. POLLUTION
C. FOOD UNCERTAINITY
D. OVER-POPULATION

Submissions will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. PT on the deadline date.

AAFCA members will review each acceptable entrants who will be notified by the information they provide.

2. Eligibility
All Entrants must be residents or legal visitors of the United States and District of Columbia. The following are not eligible: employees, members, producers, contractors, directors and officers of AAFCA or the employees and officers of any parties connected with the Program, their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, distributors, advertising agencies, web designers, judging and Program agencies involved in the administration, development, fulfillment and execution of this Program (collectively, "Program Parties"), and the immediate family members of each (spouse, parent, child, sibling,
grandparent, and spouse or "step" of each) and those living in their same households (those persons whether related or not who live in the same residence for at least three (3) months during the twelvemonth period preceding the start date of the Program). Void where prohibited.

3. Designated Team Leader
If any group of individuals elects to collaborate (“Collaborating Entrants”) on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person as the agent of the group to enter the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition, agree to these Official Rules and upon acceptance sign the Filmmaker’s Agreement.
Neither Organizer nor any of the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators arising out of or related to the competition.
NOTE: Entrants that enter as individuals are subject to the same terms and conditions as Entrants working with a team.

4. Filmmaker’s Agreement
All individual Entrants or Team Leaders (on behalf of the group) are required to sign the standard AAFCA Filmmaker’s Agreement. If under the legal age of majority in Entrant’s state of residence, Entrants and Team Leaders’ parent or legal guardian must sign it on their behalf.

As a condition of entry, the remaining team members must sign an affidavit acknowledging their voluntary participation in the Program and acceptance of these rules, the Official Filmmaking Rules available at www.aafca.org, and the Filmmaker’s Agreement, which sets forth the rights of each Entrant
and AAFCA with respect to the use of Entries by AAFCA. Entries that do not include all required information and adhere to the foregoing and following requirements will be considered void and will not be considered in this AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition. If Organizer cannot successfully contact an Entrant and confirm their acceptance to be a finalist within 7 days, such Entrant will be disqualified.

Entry Entrants agree that the Organizer has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition and that all decisions of Organizer are final and binding. All other costs associated with the production of the Entries are solely the responsibility of the Entrant.

7. Program Timeline
The AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition will begin production on February 1, 2022. All Entrants must upload film productions to the contest portal featured on the AAFCA website at www.aafca.com by or submitted to via link or electronic transfer to specialprojects@aafca.com by 11:59 p.m. PT on deadline date.

8. Judging of Finalists’ Entries
Finalists will be judged by a process in which qualified panels of judges will evaluate the eligible entries
based on the following judging criteria:
· Artistic Merit (e.g., Story, Creativity, Entertainment Value) (45%)
· Technical Merit (25%)
· Adherence to the Assignment (30%)

9. Program Terms of Submission
By submitting an Entry into this AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry content and Finalists’ Entry (if applicable) he/she is entering in this Program, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by AAFCA for use by Entrants in connection with this Program. Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from
each person who and/or location that appears in the Initial Entry and Finalists’ Entry (if applicable) to grant the rights to the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition Parties described in these Official Rules, and will submit copies of such permissions to the Program Parties upon request. By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to these Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold AAFCA and all parties connected with the Program and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the AAFCA Program Indemnities), harmless from any and all claims,
damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition Indemnities due to or arising out of the Entrant's Entry materials in this Program, or the Entrant's conduct during and in connection with this Program, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation. Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless AAFCA and all parties connected with the Program from any and all claims that any advertising,
presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of AAFCA or any parties connected with this Program infringes on the rights of Entrant's work as contained in any Entry. Furthermore, by submitting an Entry into AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition, each Entrant grants AAFCA and all parties connected with this Program the rights to use their name, voice, name mention, picture, portrait, likeness, and statements captured by photography or videography and
any other related publicity or promotion required during or subsequent to the competition end.

10. General Conditions
By participating, Entrants agree to these Official Rules which are final and binding in all respects. The AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition is governed by the laws of the state of California, USA, and all claims must be resolved in the California courts or the Federal courts located in the state of California.

11. Limitations of Liability and Release
No liability or responsibility is assumed by AAFCA resulting from any user's participation in or attempt to participate in this program or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with participating in the Program. No responsibility or liability is assumed by the AAFCA for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the Program: hardware or software errors; faulty computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, electronic, wireless or Internet connectivity or other online communication
problems; errors or limitations of any Internet service providers, servers, hosts or providers; garbled, jumbled or faulty data transmissions; failure of any e-mail transmissions to be sent or received; lost, late, delayed or intercepted e-mail transmissions; inaccessibility of the Web Site in whole or in part for any reason; traffic congestion on the Internet or the Web Site; unauthorized human or non-human
intervention of the operation of the Program, including without limitation, unauthorized tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, worms; or destruction of any aspect of the Program, or loss, miscount, misdirection, inaccessibility or unavailability of an email account used in connection with the Program.AAFCA or any other parties connected with this Program are not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement of prizes or these Official Rules, or any inaccurate or incorrect data contained on the Web Site or social media sites maintained by AAFCA. Use of Web Site and the AAFCA’s social media sites is at user's own risk. AAFCA and all parties connected with the Program are not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind which may be sustained to
user's or any other person's computer equipment resulting from participation in the Program, use of the Web Site or the download of any information from the Web Site. By participating in the Program, Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold AAFCA and all parties connected with the Program harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Entrant's participation in the Program.

12. Winners
Winners will be contact upon final selection. Winners of each track with compete in AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition on October 12, 2024.
