The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) is proud to announce our 2nd AAFCA Afro-Latino Short Film Competition.

This competition offers a vital platform for emerging creatives to explore significant themes and issues impacting Afro-Latino identity through original short films. Submissions should aim to spotlight and offer solutions for important topics such as incarceration, environmental sustainability, oppression, race and fascism, the arts, animal rights, systemic corruption, and immigration.

Our goal for this festival is to utilize short-form cinematic works to illuminate Afro-Latino identities both in the U.S. and internationally. The Afro-Latino community is vast and diverse, and we believe that the art of filmmaking can foster connections among its talented creatives and filmmakers.

Each entry must address one of the following themes:

- Environment
- Values and Beliefs
- Food uncertainty
- Immigration

From all submissions, 10 finalists will be selected to participate in a 72-hour online film screening, hosted on AAFCA’s secure digital platform from September 25–27, 2025. Following this showcase, the top 3 films will be honored live at AAFCA’s New York event on October 9, 2025.

Thank you to the AAFCA Afro Latino Short Film Competition for selecting and awarding my film second place. If I could give this festival 100 stars, I would. This was such an incredible experience. Although this is an online festival, the awards ceremony/closing party was so worth the submission. I met so many industry people who were all there to celebrate Afro-Latino culture and films. It's a great way to make connections and meet other filmmakers and industry folks. Thank you, AAFCA and LEJA, for putting together this amazing event and competition.
