Welcome to the Aotearoa 1 minute AI Film Festival 2026! Brought to you with the help of NZ on Air, NZ Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho, and supported by Kōawa Studios, to help inspire participation and experimentation in making creative work using AI tools.

The Film Festival ran at Te Puna Creative Hub in Auckland New Zealand on 5 May 2026.

2026 theme: The Social

What do we mean? Think the role of AI in human social interactions - or humans being social.
Will AI help us in our social interactions, or get in the way? Will it interrupt us, do things for us, or join us in everyday social things with other humans? Will our chatbot get annoyed when we leave it behind to spend time with our human friends? How do you see AI shaping how we are social in future?

• Target screentime is 1 minute
• Entries must not exceed 2 minutes of screentime, including credits
• Only entrants based in Aotearoa New Zealand will be considered for the prizes
