THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE is a project that helps fund & promote films directed by women.

THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE project provides financial and promotional support to women filmmakers who are in pre/post-production of a short film. As part of the larger conversation happening in the film community about the lack of female filmmakers, this project has been initiated for positive change.

Because providing financial assistance is the first step to increasing the representation of women’s voices in the industry, this project awards individual grants from $500 – $1000 (quantity dependent on sales) on a quarterly basis. We continue to promote these films throughout production, theatrical or streaming release, to increase their exposure. All proceeds from THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE project go to female filmmakers with a short film in any stage of production.

Since our beginnings in February 2018, we've been able to award five filmmakers: Alicia Kester - YESTERDAY, Catherine Fordham - KAYA, Amber Sealey - HOW DOES IT START?, Eleanor Wilson - LOW ROAD, and Kristine Gerolaga - STARRING KRISTINE.

The FOFIF IS also an ongoing film series at the Museum of Modern Art working with filmmakers like Shirin Neshat, Josephine Decker, Nia DaCosta, Catherine Fordham, and A.V. Rockwell along with short-form film organizations like NoBudge and The Eyeslicer. Check out the first two editions: THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE, PART 1 (July 2018) and THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE, PART 2 (February 2019).

THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE awards 1-3 individual grants from $500 – $1000 (quantity dependent on sales of t-shirts and other FOFIF products) on a quarterly basis. We then continue to promote awarded films throughout production, theatrical or streaming release, to increase their exposure.

We look at short films (in pre or post-production) directed by women. Other than that, here aren't many rules but here are our guidelines:

1) Preferred length is no more than 20 minutes
2) At this time we're not funding student films
3) International films considered
