FESTIVAL STOP MOTION MX 2026
CONVOCATORIA DE CORTOMETRAJES
El Festival Stop Motion Mx (SMMX) tiene como objetivo brindar espacios de exhibición para producciones nacionales e internacionales, y al mismo tiempo compartir experiencias de apreciación cinematográfica alrededor de la animación cuadro por cuadro dirigida a diversos públicos.
Te invitamos a participar en la undécima convocatoria internacional de cortometrajes de la 12ª edición del Festival Stop Motion Mx 2026 que se celebrará del 5 al 7 de noviembre en CDMX, donde se reconocerá el trabajo de producciones y creadores audiovisuales.
BASES
Podrán competir todos los trabajos audiovisuales que contengan animación stop motion en su totalidad; así como obras con técnicas mixtas que tengan al menos un 50% de animación tradicional cuadro por cuadro.
La participación a la convocatoria del Festival Stop Motion Mx es gratuita. Los gastos de inscripción por uso de la plataforma corren por cuenta de los participantes.

Podrán participar de manera individual o colectiva estudiantes, artistas visuales independientes, cineastas, público en general y entusiastas de cualquier nacionalidad.
La fecha límite de inscripción de trabajos es el 31 de julio de 2026.
Podrán participar todas aquellas producciones realizadas entre enero de 2023 y Julio de 2026.
Categorías en competencia:
MEXICANO - Solo producciones de México.
INTERNACIONAL - Producciones de cualquier lugar del mundo. Excepto México.
LATINOAMERICANO - Solo producciones de América Latina.
UNIVERSITARIO - Solo producciones realizadas por estudiantes.
EXPERIMENTAL - Expresión audiovisual libre con técnicas mixtas o materiales alternativos.
VIDEOCLIP - Representación visual de un material sonoro.
SPOT PUBLICITARIO - Promoción de productos o servicios.
INFANTIL - Producciones dirigidas a éste público.
PRIMEROS CUADROS - Producciones realizadas por infancias y adolescentes, enfocados en sus primeras exploraciones audiovisuales.
El Festival Stop Motion Mx (SMMX), se contactará de manera directa para solicitar las versiones en alta calidad de los materiales para que se proyecten durante los días del festival y fechas posteriores en la Muestra Itinerante.
Los participantes deben tener los derechos de los trabajos que presenten.
Los trabajos cuyo idioma sea distinto al español deberán ser entregados con subtítulos en español.
Los trabajos que formen parte de la Selección Oficial del Festival Stop Motion Mx 2026 serán obras de la filmoteca del festival y los participantes serán notificados vía correo electrónico.
El Comité de Organización SMMX realizará la curaduría de los trabajos en competencia, junto con un jurado conformado por profesionales de la animación stop motion, y otorgará los reconocimientos de cada categoría. Su decisión será inapelable.
Los ganadores se darán a conocer en la clausura del Festival Stop Motion Mx el sábado 7 de noviembre de 2026.
El premio es un Xoloitzcuintle (estatuilla) y reconocimiento digital. Los gastos de envío corren por cuenta del participante antes del 28 de febrero de 2027; además de la posibilidad de tener una invitación a futuras ediciones para participar como invitado del festival. Los recursos financieros para las invitaciones están sujetos al presupuesto anual de cada edición del Festival Stop Motion Mx, y el Comité de Organización SMMX no está obligado a hacerse cargo de todos los gastos que se generen por la invitación al evento y la Ciudad de México.
Todo aquello no previsto en la presente convocatoria, será resuelto por el Comité de Organización SMMX.
Los participantes que sometan sus trabajos a esta convocatoria ceden los derechos al Festival Stop Motion Mx para realizar la exhibición pública de la obra audiovisual sometida a este concurso, durante y en fechas posteriores de este festival. Todas las reproducciones de sus obras, serán sin fines de lucro, por lo que SMMX no generará ningún pago por dichas actividades.
Todos los concursantes por el sólo hecho de enviar sus obras al Festival Stop Motion Mx, aceptan someterse a los lineamientos de esta convocatoria. Los participantes que no cumplan con los requisitos serán descalificados de este concurso.
Se entenderá que todas las obras que participen en esta convocatoria cumplen con los requisitos descritos en la misma, por lo que los participantes deslindan al Festival Stop Motion Mx (SMMX) de toda responsabilidad legal que pudiera surgir de reclamos de terceros, haciendo al concursante responsable de las acciones legales emprendidas en su contra, así como las consecuencias que se deriven de ésta.

CALL FOR SHORT FILM ENTRIES
The Stop Motion Mx Festival (SMMX) aims to provide a platform for national and international productions while fostering cinematic appreciation of frame-by-frame animation for diverse audiences.
We invite you to participate in the 11th International Short Film Call for Entries as part of the 12th edition of the Stop Motion Mx Festival 2026, where outstanding productions and audiovisual creators will be recognized.
GUIDELINES
All audiovisual works that feature stop-motion animation in their entirety are eligible to compete. Additionally, mixed-media works that include at least 50% traditional frame-by-frame animation may also participate.
Participation in the Stop Motion Mx Festival call is free of charge. However, any platform registration fees are the responsibility of the participants.
Entries are open to individuals or groups, including students, independent visual artists, filmmakers, general audiences, and animation enthusiasts of any nationality.
The submission deadline is July 31, 2026.
Eligible productions must have been completed between January 2026 and July 2026.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
MEXICAN – Only productions from Mexico.
INTERNATIONAL – Productions from any country except Mexico.
LATIN AMERICAN – Only productions from Latin America.
UNIVERSITY – Only productions created by students.
EXPERIMENTAL – Open audiovisual expression using mixed media or alternative materials.
MUSIC VIDEO – Visual representation of a musical piece.
COMMERCIAL SPOT – Promotion of products or services.
CHILDREN'S – Productions specifically directed at young audiences.
FIRST FRAMES – Short films created by children and teenagers, focused on their first audiovisual explorations.
The Stop Motion Mx Festival (SMMX) will directly contact selected participants to request high-quality versions of their works for screenings during the festival and subsequent presentations in the Itinerant Showcase.
Participants must hold the rights to the works they submit.
All submissions in a language other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles.
Selected works for the Official Selection of the Stop Motion Mx Festival 2026 will become part of the festival's film archive, and participants will be notified via email.
The SMMX Organizing Committee will oversee the curation of competing works, along with a jury composed of stop-motion animation professionals. The jury's decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
Winners will be announced during the Stop Motion Mx Festival closing ceremony on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
AWARDS. The prize consists of a Xoloitzcuintle statuette and a digital recognition. Shipping costs must be covered by winners the recipient before February 28, 2027. Additionally, winners may receive an invitation to participate as festival guests in future editions. However, financial support for these invitations is subject to the annual budget of each edition. The SMMX Organizing Committee is not obligated to cover all expenses related to travel or accommodation in Mexico City.
TERMS & CONDITIONS. Any matters not covered in these guidelines will be resolved by the SMMX Organizing Committee.
By submitting their works, participants grant the Stop Motion Mx Festival the rights to publicly exhibit their audiovisual piece during and after the festival. All screenings will be non-commercial, and no payments will be made by SMMX for these exhibitions.
By submitting an entry, participants agree to comply with these guidelines. Any submission that fails to meet the requirements will be disqualified.
By entering this call, participants confirm that their works comply with the outlined requirements, releasing the Stop Motion Mx Festival (SMMX) from any legal liability related to third-party claims. The participant assumes full legal responsibility for any legal action taken against them and the consequences thereof.
