New Environmental Film Competition running alongside Film New Forest and the New Forest Film Festival.

Competition titled : WASTED: Global Issues - Local Solutions.

The theme for the film competition will be about all forms of 'waste'. We will be looking for solutions, positivity and pragmatic thinking. Entries can be international but the focus point of the film has to be about problem solving and thinking differently about issues in your local area.

We will be looking for the most attention grabbing and creative films. We will focus on the strength of the ideas and how they are conveyed through thought provoking and engaging storytelling.

Final prizes to be confirmed, but are likely to be a selection of clothing from environmentally conscious and sustainably produced outdoor lifestyle brands.

There will be certificates presented to all the shortlisted entries.

The New Forest Film Festival will run from the 8th – 16th June 2019. spudFILM
and this competition are run independently, but forms part of the festival
programme in association with Film New Forest.

The deadline for submissions will be the 8th of May 2019 At 17:00 GMT.

The top 10 shortlisted films will be shown on the 16th of June 2019 in the Gallery at spudWORKS, Station Road, Sway, SO41 6BA. This will be followed by the Judges talk and prize giving.

There will be a small entry fee of £5 for the evening to cover the running costs of the event. Any further donations made to the SPUD as a charity are always gratefully received.

Prizes for the winning filmmakers, are to be confirmed and will be published in the website.

General Rules
All films must be no more than 10 minutes long including titles and credits.

All films must be submitted in Mp4 format with a maximum file size of 3gb.

It would be helpful if entrants could also provide versions of the film without background music or subtitles if possible – but this is not compulsory. This will help us in using any submitted films for future promotional content for the competition.

Any type of camera may be used to create your film.

Any Genre of film is acceptable. Everything from Horror to Animation is acceptable, this film competition is not limited to Documentary.

All entries into the competition must be your original work and must not infringe the
copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity, or otherwise be unlawful. spudFILM has overall discretion in
determining whether to publish, screen or broadcast any material.

Judging process
judges will choose from 10 shortlisted films to be shown on the night.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the showing to the winners of 3 categories:
- Youth (Judges choice of best Film from under 18’s Filmmakers)
- Adult (Judges choice of best Film from Filmmakers who are 18 and over)
- Peoples Vote (The overall favorite film of the evening. Voted for by the general public)

There will also be runners up chosen as well as certificates for all 10 shortlisted films.

All entries submitted will be reviewed for each category. The judging panel will then decide the finalists or winning entries.

Any entry which doesn’t follow the rules or guidelines will be disqualified.

The selection of the shortlists and winners will not be up for dispute. The judging panel’s decision is final and conclusive, and no further discussion will be entered into.

    Great little festival!
    My son's film, "Tire Swing" (
    won the Youth Category for the spudFilm: Wasted Environmental Films. Communication was prompt and excellent! I wish we could have been there in person to see all of the films, meet other filmmakers and the festivals promoters!
