To compliment our massive, mainstream festival, this fall we are doing our third round of SH*TS N GIGGLES: Vancouver’s REAL Run N Gun Competition.

This is a sister competition of Run N Gun: Vancouver's 48 Hour Film Competition. It's run by the same people.

First off, just because it’s call Sh*ts N Giggles doesn’t mean we only want comedy films, and it definitely doesn’t mean we want (intentionally) bad films. Vancouver has a rich history of putting mediocrity on a pedestal and that’s just not the kind of festival we want to run.

No. We want you all to make the BEST films you possibly can, in any genre you want, without breaking the piggy bank or spending your life savings to make a movie.

Unrepresented Filmmakers: Black, Indigenous, Trans, or disabled filmmakers can email us at rngfestival@gmail.com for waivers.

These groups have, historically, been underrepresented in the past years of Run N Gun and we are committed to reducing and removing barriers of entry. These films must be directed by an underrepresented filmmaker to quality.

Only the TOP FILMS will play the festival. The exact number will be determined closer to the festival, but expect two programmes of short films.

There will only be four awards: GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE and BEST STUDENT FILM.

Remember, we are making these movies for sh*ts n giggles. If you are participating for awards and prestige at a festival called Sh*ts N Giggles, you may be too far gone for this competition.

- The competition is open to all filmmakers living in British Columbia

- Our theme is this year is FAMILY

- You may do whatever you want with your films, but this theme must be incorporated in some way, shape, or form.

- Films must be completed for UNDER 250 DOLLARS (Excluding: Food, Gas, Insurance, Sound)

- ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE ABLE TO FIT INTO THE BACK OF A TOYOTA PRIUS. No renting giant gear vans, even if you own a giant gear van, you can’t fill it. Evo has great deals on renting Prius’ if you are interested in looking (they don’t sponsor us… Yet…But we want them to)

- You have until October 10th 2024 to make a film. That’s right, you can start now. Pre-writing is encouraged.

- Films must be UNDER 5 MINUTES IN LENGTH, including credits.

- Anything goes: We don’t censor art. We ain’t about that sh*t. We encourage our filmmakers not to punch down, but we also encourage filmmakers to push boundaries. (That being said, legally we cannot play pornography with sexual penetration.)

- You cannot publicly play your film before the festival

This festival goes incredibly hard. It's run by the community for the community, and a pure celebration of making s*** - budget and ego aside. Sasha and Joel have figured out that when you stop caring is when you make your best art. Looking forward to next year!!

When I make it big, I'll have this event to thank. Really great festival for old and new film makers alike. I love the culture of the entire festival saga Joel and Sasha put out. It's punk, it's exciting, it's competitive and it's accessible. I jumped into a crowd of 420, and was caught with pillows, new industry contacts, and love. Somebody asked sometime ago "Will someone please think of the children??" .. well Joel and Sasha did. ❤️🙏

My loyalty is forever with SNG 🤝 you have my megaphone.

Fantastic event to know most of the talented filmmakers in town, also excited to see so many films go onto the big screen, such an encouragement to all the new filmmakers.

Had a great time screening our movie to a sold out audience. What a great way to encourage filmmakers to get out and create, budget be damned. Will definitely participate next time.
