SAN FRANCISCO BLACK FILM FESTIVAL's MISSION is to celebrate African American cinema and the African cultural Diaspora and to showcase a diverse collection of films – from emerging and established filmmakers. This is accomplished by presenting films, which reinforce positive images and dispel negative stereotypes, and providing film artists from the bay area in particular and around the world in general, a forum for their work to be viewed and discussed. SFBFF believes film can lead to a better understanding of and communication between, peoples of diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles, while simultaneously serving as a vehicle to initiate dialogue on the important issues of our times.

An early proponent of the global perspective, the festival has always been ahead of its time. Long before popular culture paid lip service to ‘going global’, we were walking the walk, presenting global motifs and topics from filmmakers around the world.

    Cree
I am writing to thank you and the team for another incredible experience at the San Francisco Black Film Festival. The festival was impeccably run and executed, and it was a privilege to witness such a well-organized event that offers filmmakers a fantastic opportunity to showcase their work and receive immediate audience feedback.

Cree, you are drooling 'becoming,' and watching your growth in the past four years is a beautiful process.
This festival is in your DNA. Salute to you for continuing this legacy of #BlackExcellence.

As a past two-time winner and recipient of the Jeff Adachi Social Justice Award, I can't tell you how being a part of this festival has impacted my career as a filmmaker. The exposure and recognition have been invaluable.

I would also like to acknowledge Jackie Wright for her outstanding public relations efforts for the festival. Her dedication and hard work have significantly contributed to the festival's success.

A special note of gratitude goes to JR Valrey. With his recommendation, I discovered the SFBFF, and I am genuinely grateful for that. JR, you are a true ambassador for the festival and bring the soul representative of Black culture, particularly the Bay Area culture. I appreciate you immensely.

The festival staff and volunteers, specifically Sarah, Sabrina, and Addae, were first-class. Their commitment and professionalism were evident and greatly appreciated.

As I’ve mentioned to you all, whether or not I have a film showing at the festival, it has become an integral part of my Father's Day week of respite and relaxation.

I am already looking forward to next year's event.

    Best,

    James Farr
