The Septimius Awards is a filmfestival that showcases the best films and talent from around the world. Every year we award the best film makers, writers and producers by inviting them to our annual competition hosted in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We showcase various genres from non-fiction to fiction films. The award ceremony has a wide range of attendees which include Emmy, BAFTA and Oscar winners.

Not only do we grant prizes to the winners, but we also connect filmmakers to our network of professionals. Connecting filmmakers with our extensive database of agents, distributors and other industry professionals.

Rules & Terms

1) Short films: maximum 60 minutes. Feature films: 61 + minutes.
2) One film can be entered in multiple categories to increase chances of winning.
3) All Non-English films must be subtitled in English.
4) We never publicly share screenings, all screenings are viewed privately. Only our judges will see your movie.
5) All winners will receive a trophy.
6) Only attending nominees are considered for the Septimius Awards.
7) Submitter grant Septimius Awards to right to show short highlights of their projects during the award ceremony and stills of the projects will be published in the Septimius Book.
7) Entry fees are non-refundable.
8) The decision of jury members will be final and accepted by all no inquiries or arguments will be entertained. The organizers reserve the right not to award any or all of the prizes.
9) Submitter is aware that the Septimius Awards is being filmed and that you grant Septimius Awards the right for the event footage, such as red carpet interviews and the award ceremony to published on TV and the Internet.
10) Selected films can be screened once on Dutch television.
11) The applicant agrees to have read and accepted the rules & regulations for participation in the Septimius Awards.
The applicant confirms that they have the requisite authority or has obtained the requisite authority from the producer/right holder to enter this film in the Septimius Awards .
12) We can withdraw at any time the selection or the award if these rules are not respected.
13) We generally do not grant waivers.

    We were thrilled that our short film In Search of a White Identity was officially selected for the festival, and that our writer and co-star Cliff Henry was nominated for Best European Actor. The festival panel's attention to detail around cultural sensitivity was impressively astute, and the work shown was of high calibre, also involving some established actors. The festival brought people together from every continent, and had a great energy.

    What a beautifully orchestrated event -- from the panel discussion to the polished, professional and fast-paced awards gala evening in the glorious International Theater Amsterdam, it was simply a wonderful experience. Diversity was the theme. SHAKESPEARE: The Truth Behind the Name was honored to be nominated for Best Feature Documentary. On the first day, the elegant founder of the event -- J.W. -Jan-Willem Breure -- greeted me by saying, "Your film shows great passion." How heart-warming.
    That passion explains why, over the previous 15-months, we had won 106/23 Wins/Nominations on IMDb. But, because of Covid, this was our very first in-person awards ceremony and it was just so special. The winner of our category was deserving of the prize and we were so proud, as seekers of truth in the age-old Shakespeare Authorship Question, just to have been included in this diverse and excellent circle of nominees.
    Overall it was a sleek and memorable experience -- being able to talk to several Oscar Winners in attendance for their Lifetime Achievement Awards, other nominee filmmakers and their crew members and supporters. For this debut filmmaker, it was a real thrill. Thank you, JW, thank you Septimius!

    We were nominated for best film award and were very pleased with the honor. However, being forced to travel so far (South Africa to Europe) to attend the festival or forfeit the nomination seems to be a bit unfair. We however understand why you do it that way.
