Millions of people come from all over the globe to learn the lessons of Salem’s past and to revel in the perpetual spirit of Halloween. There is no better place to premiere your film.

We are seeking unique, wild, thought provoking, and socially conscious feature films and shorts to present live in Salem and are committed to supporting independent, unique, and diverse voices.

Selected features will receive a screening honorarium. The film must have a premiere status in order to qualify for award consideration.

*** Please note that we will not be accepting any film submissions from Texas or Florida unless they feature LGBTQIA2S+ content or creators. No exceptions. ***

Feature Films

All feature film submissions will be considered for a $1,000 Jury Award cash prize. One film will be awarded an Audience Award as voted by the festival attendees. Three filmmakers will be selected to participate in The George A. Romero Film Fellowship connecting storytellers with notable industry experts to offer advice, guidance and support.

Short Films

A selection will be curated for a two hour event showcase. There is a Jury Award and Audience Award as voted by the festival attendees.

This was the only festival I cared about getting in to. So when I got into it I literally jumped out of my skin. It was the best day ever! Every film I make going forward will go directly to them because they are wonderful and amazing and I love them forever. <3

I'm sure hardcore fans of this festival had a wonderful time but, for me, the communication was lacking, except when they wanted something. No real welcome, no email replies, and a certain amount of last minute scheduling that didn't make for a successful outcome. All in all, a huge disappointment. Perhaps, If the organizers spent more time promoting participants instead of themselves, the festival might live up to its Salem name. Sorry, but if this event is going to appeal to more than its current niche audience, it really has to shape up.

This festival is one to watch. Kay Lynch is phenomenal and cares so deeply about filmmakers and audiences alike. I cannot wait to see where she takes this festival in the years to come. Highly recommend.
