Featured by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the Best Genre Festivals in the World!

Millions of people come from all over the globe to learn the lessons of Salem’s past and to revel in the perpetual spirit of Halloween. There is no better place to premiere your film.

We are seeking unique, wild, thought provoking, and socially conscious feature films and shorts to present live in Salem and are committed to supporting independent, unique, and diverse voices.

Selected features will receive a screening honorarium. The film must have a premiere status in order to qualify for award consideration.

*** Please note that we will not be accepting any film submissions from Texas or Florida unless they feature LGBTQIA2S+ content or creators. No exceptions. ***

Feature Films

All feature film submissions will be considered for a $1,000 Jury Award cash prize. One film will be awarded an Audience Award as voted by the festival attendees. Three filmmakers will be selected to participate in The George A. Romero Film Fellowship connecting storytellers with notable industry experts to offer advice, guidance and support.

Short Films

A selection will be curated for a two hour event showcase. There is a Jury Award and Audience Award as voted by the festival attendees.

Upon submitting a film for consideration to Salem Horror Festival the submitter acknowledges and agrees to the following:

1. The submitter holds relevant copyrights for the submitted film and agrees to screen the film at Salem Horror Festival should it be selected for the program.

2. The submitter understands that submitting a film does not guarantee entry into the festival program.

Salem Horror Fest only accepts submissions electronically, utilizing online screeners. This allows your film to be seen by the whole programming team and thus increases its chances of being selected.

I'm still sad I had to cancel my trip to Salem and couldn't experience the festival in person. I'll definitely do all I can to get there in future years. I'm so incredibly honoured that my film Demon Box received the Jury Prize. From initial notifications through the festival experience, I felt so connected to the team at Salem even though I wasn't able to be there. Ugh. It still hurts through all the love. But I suppose that's probably what you want from a standout horror festival. Thanks again for championing my film with your wonderful audiences.
