The Reggio FilmFest – RCFF was founded in 2004, and is organized by the Associazione Artistico Culturale Eventi.
With the support, among others, of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, the patronage of the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, the patronage of Rai, the patronage of the Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Calabria and the Municipality of Reggio Calabria.
The primary objectives of the RCFF are the promotion of audiovisual and cultural products for the territory of the Strait of Messina Area, the promotion and development of Made in Italy in the context of the national cultural and cinematographic panorama.
The Festival perfectly combines cinema, culture, Made in Italy, the Strait of Messina area, all elements of identity of the Italian culture system, a privileged setting for large-scale productions.
In recent editions, the aim has been to discover new talents in the sector and today the Festival represents an important and unique national reality, with the presence of actors, producers, directors, set designers, screenwriters and costume designers who are testimonials and interpreters of the trends and innovations evolving in the Cinema and audiovisual sector.
The RCFF also promotes innovative products in the sector at both a technological and authorial level.
Over the years, the Artistic Direction has been entrusted to exponents of the world of cinema with absolute experience and representativeness, starting with Gianluca Curti, artistic director of the first editions and then Bruno Marino, Mimmo Calopresti, Massimo Spano, Gianni Federico and, in the 2024 edition, Antonio Flamini.
The Festival, since its first edition, has also been held with a view to promoting sites and places of high historical, artistic and cultural value in the area.
The E20 Cultural Association has decided to create a “Mediterranean Art Route” on the Strait of Messina, where the protagonists and guests of the Festival will be able to visit, above all, the Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria which houses the famous Riace Bronzes, whose fiftieth anniversary since their discovery was celebrated in 2022.
But also in the Historic Palaces of Reggio Calabria, which are home to Masterclasses, Workshops, book presentations and exhibitions.
Up to the Arena dello Stretto C. Franco, on the Lungomare of Reggio Calabria that the writer Gabriele D’Annunzio defined as “the most beautiful kilometer in Italy”, where the Red Carpet of the Reggio Film Fest takes place.
The Festival includes, in its program, 7 days organized in five sections, the “Millennial Movie” feature film competition, the “Bergamotto di Reggio Calabria” Award, Masterclasses and events dedicated to direction, scenography, dubbing, seriality and production.
But also the historic section “A book for the cinema” in which the protagonists are authors whose work has become or has the credentials to become an audiovisual work.
Finally, the section “Cinema inside and outside the Walls” which includes a day inside the Reggio Calabria District Prison, includes a thematic screening in prison, linked to the re-education and social reintegration of prisoners.
Finally, the Reggio Film Fest Awards are historic: the Bergamotto di Reggio Calabria Award, the Raf Vallone Award, the Leopoldo Trieste Award, the Gianna Maria Canale Award, the Giacomo Battaglia Award, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria Award, the CiakCalabria Award, the “Rieducazione e Solidarietà Reggio Calabria” Award in the Cinema inside and outside the Walls section.
