The Jewish arts and culture nonprofit Reboot was founded on the principle that every generation must grapple with the questions of Jewish identity, community and meaning on its own terms in order to help us "Reboot" the traditions and values we've inherited and make them vital and resonant in our own lives. For more than two decades, we have curated and produced opportunities to gather, to engage, to question and to create.

At this unprecedented time in the Jewish world, in the midst of a historic rise in antisemitism, we believe our work is more important than ever. When the world is so divided, we’re committed to the idea that art can be a unifying force, bringing people together to create greater empathy and showcase diverse narratives to meet the challenges of our day.

Reboot Studios emerged from Reboot’s previous successes funding a multitude of projects across all media, including the critically acclaimed Broadway show Just For Us from comedian Alex Edelman, the award winning short film The Anne Frank Gift Shop from writer/director Mickey Rapkin and widely hailed virtual Passover production Saturday Night Seder, with Jason Alexander, Billy Porter, Henry Winkler, Pamela Adlon, Cynthia Erivo, and more.

Reboot’s creative network now consists of more than 650 Jewish (and “Jew-ish”) influencers, whose work includes beloved and transformational television shows (Transparent, Lost, The Office, Orange is the New Black), Broadway productions (Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, and The Greatest Showman, Rent, Fiddler on the Roof, The Band’s Visit), technology platforms (Google, Facebook, MasterClass) and impactful journalism (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Buzzfeed); plus influential academics, authors, non-profit executives, community organizers, renowned chefs and digital media innovators.

Reboot Studios’ advisory board, comprised of distinguished industry leaders and creators who will be actively shepherding and guiding the projects, includes: Amy Israel, President of TV, North Road; Benj Pasek, Oscar®, Grammy®, Tony®, and Golden Globe® Award-winning songwriter of Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land and The Greatest Showman; David Greenbaum, President, Searchlight Pictures; Jeb Brody, President of Production, Amblin Partners; Jenny Steingart, Tony® Award-winning producer and co-founder of Ars Nova; Michael Ellenberg, CEO & Founder, Media Res Studio; Raymond Roker, Publisher and Entrepreneur; Rebecca Arzoian, President, Smokehouse Pictures; and Riva Marker, CEO Linden Productions.

For 2024, Reboot Studios currently contemplates that it will make between four (4) to seven (7) recoupable development investments with a range of $15,000 to $25,000 each.

- Investments may only be used for actual, direct, verifiable, third-party costs and expenses to plan and produce your project.

- Recipients will be required to submit written reports on the status of the project.

Deadline: Submissions for this cycle of Reboot Studios funding are accepted through 12/31/23.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the approval process is entirely discretionary. Accordingly, there is no guarantee that a Project submitted to Reboot Studios will receive a development investment and each Project shall be required to execute the Reboot Studios customary investment paperwork prior to funding of any contribution, which may include an affidavit of eligibility, a release and indemnification, as well as any other documents that Company may require. Notwithstanding the foregoing or anything to the contrary in these Official Submission Rules, Company shall not be under any obligation to designate any number of Recipients. If a Recipient does not reply to any notification by Reboot Studios within five (5) business days, such Recipient may be disqualified in Reboot Studios sole discretion and an alternate Recipient may be selected. Company shall not be responsible in any way for any missed notification or a Creator’s failure to receive a communication from Reboot Studios.

Our goals are straightforward yet far-reaching, aiming to achieve transformative impact on a broad scale:

- The development and production of narratives that explore a far more expansive vision of the Jewish diaspora, its themes and identities beyond what we’ve historically been exposed to in the media. These projects would include scripted and documentary media (long form, short form and episodic), theatrical productions (plays, one-person shows, etc), podcasts, books, albums, photography projects, and digital/multimedia art.

- The marketing and distribution of these projects to scale for a young Jewish audience and the broader community.

- An emphasis on premium projects that have the potential to win awards (Oscar/Tony/Emmy/Grammy-worthy content).

- The integration of social impact campaigns and education curricula that inspire a clear call to action and active participation for Jews and beyond.

By submitting to the Fund, Creators agree to these Official Submission Rules and acknowledge that the decisions of Company shall be binding and final in all matters relating to the Fund.

Eligibility for Participation

The Fund is open to submissions from individuals who are 18 years of age or older, as well as Creators under the age of 18 whose entries are accompanied by written parental consent to the terms of these Official Submission Rules. Company reserves the right to verify and confirm such consent and disqualify any Creator under 18 without valid consent. Any individuals who have been employed by or performed services for Company or any other person or entity responsible for sponsoring, administering, advertising or promoting the Fund, and/or their respective parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, including but not limited to employees, consultants, independent contractors, interns, immediate family and household members of such individuals, are not eligible to submit to the Fund. Programs created or funded by broadcast networks, cable networks or studios are likewise ineligible to submit to the Fund.

If Company, in its sole discretion, believes that an Submission contains any material that may infringe or violate the copyright or any other right of a third party (including, without limitation, right of publicity, right of privacy, etc.), Company may, in its sole discretion, immediately disqualify such Submission and take any and all other measures Company may deem appropriate. If Company determines in its sole discretion that an Submission contains any content deemed indecent, inappropriate, morally objectionable or otherwise unfit for dissemination or broadcast, such Submission will be immediately disqualified. If an Submission does not meet the stated running time requirements or fails to satisfy any of the Official Submission Rules, Reboot may disqualify such Submission in Company’s sole discretion.

Representations and Warranties. Creator represents and warrants that: (i) Creator has the full, exclusive and unconditional right and authority to enter into this Agreement without the authorization of any third party; (ii) Creator is the sole and exclusive author and owner of the Submission, and no third party is or could be entitled to any payment or other consideration as a condition of the exploitation of the Submission or any part thereof; (iii) no rights in the Submission, or any part thereof, have been granted to any third party or otherwise encumbered; and (iv) the Submission does not violate the copyright or any other right of any third party, and is not the subject of any litigation or of any claim that might give rise to litigation.

Indemnification. By submitting to the Fund, the Creator(s) agree to indemnify, defend (to the extent requested by Company), and hold harmless Company, and its successors, licensees, and assigns, from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable outside attorneys’ fees and disbursements) that arise from any breach or alleged breach of any representation, warranty or agreement of Creator hereunder.

Name/Voice/Likeness. By submitting to the Fund all Creators grant Company the non-exclusive right to use their respective names, photographs, likenesses, voices, and/or biographical information for Company programming, publication, publicity, advertising and all other promotional purposes without compensation, review or approval unless otherwise prohibited by federal, state law, or other applicable law.

In agreeing to release claims which may arise in the future, Creator hereby waives the benefits of Section 1542 of the Civil Code of the State of California or similar laws of other jurisdictions which provides as follows: A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS WHICH THE CREDITOR DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE, WHICH IF KNOWN BY HIM MUST HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR. Notwithstanding such provisions, this Official Submission Rules shall constitute a full release in accordance with its terms. Creator acknowledges and agrees that this waiver is an essential and material term of this release and without such waiver Company would not have accepted Creator’s Submission. Creator hereby represents that Creator has had the opportunity to consult with Creator’s legal counsel, and understands and acknowledges the significance and consequences of this release and of this specific waiver of Section 1542.

In submitting an Submission to Company, each Creator acknowledges and agrees that any Materials that the Designated Entities may hereinafter use or exploit may have originated with the Designated Entities themselves or may have been already acquired from the Designated Entities’ employees or other parties, and that if such Materials duplicate, parallel or resemble Creator’s Submission, Creator shall have no claim against the Designated Entities for any use of such Materials.

By submitting an Submission, Creator acknowledges and agrees that the Designated Entities’ use of Materials containing features and elements similar to or identical with those contained in the Creator’s Submission shall not entitle the Creator to any compensation where such Materials were not created or originated by the Creator. As an inducement to Company to accept the Submission, each Creator hereby waives any claim or right of legal action against any of the Designated Entities or their successors and assigns in connection with the Designated Entities’ use of any features or elements similar or identical to Materials or any portions thereof.
