I’m Jhonny Sanchez Obando, a filmmaker, writer, actor, and cultural manager. I began my artistic path training as an actor, a practice I continue to nurture to this day. Later, I pursued formal studies in cinema, and with my first short film I reached international festivals such as Miami Film Festival and West Hollywood Film Festival, among others.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication, a master’s degree in Screenwriting for Film, and another master’s degree in Hispanic Literature. Throughout my career I have directed five feature films and numerous short films, and I have also collaborated as an actor in projects by fellow filmmakers.
Since 2008, I have been actively involved in cultural management, supporting and collaborating with other creatives across multiple disciplines beyond cinema, including literature, music, and performance. Through Kashu Artistic Vortex (Marañón Artistic Vortex), I coordinate the production and global distribution of cinematic works through the program Pachamama Vibes & Films, connecting films with cinemas, platforms, festivals, cine-clubs, and other exhibition spaces around the world.
I am also a dancer of ancestral rhythms of the Americas, and I hold a deep love for the arts in all their forms and expressions. For me, artistic practice is both a personal journey and a collective path of collaboration, exchange, and cultural transformation.
