i have always longed to escape into other realities and cinema has been a great conduit for that. from an early age from about 5 - 11 i would be doodling the most oundlandish comics to supply my friends at school with, creating ridiculous worlds and characters that would make the rounds, collected and sequels demanded. later, i would continue to explore my storytelling through the medium of animation on programs like pivot stick figure animator, flash professional or even microsoft powerpoint. stories of ninjas fighting an army of people with crocodile heads or vengeful bunny-hating ducks would never be quite as popular as the one about hospital-bound labouring mothers using their fetuses as ammunition to resist against an alien invasion, titled "personal space invaders". while everyone else was in purgatory, endlessly kicking the ball into the net, i was inside the library holding the computers hostage, dodging books that would occasionally be thrown at my head for my very blatant immaturity.

my proficiency with computers and love for story-telling and film, eventually found it's way to my love of editing. this is a skill i would self train through my embarassing high school student short films, all the way up until graduating film school with a diploma in post production editing and visual effects. this is around the time i completed my biggest project to date; a full 6 minute animation short film titled "onions", completely hand drawn and single handedly crafted for over two years. an experimental, dark horror story about a mute boy who spews onions out of his chest, to the dismay of the inhabitants of the world around him, gets chased into exile. this was around the time when i took my ideas a bit more serious and less random/silly. a punk at heart, i want my art to mean something and to make some change- whether it's just a perspective or try push boundaries. "onions" itself references this.

years later i moved out of new zealand and poured my heart into a script which landed on the table of john hipwell, an australian film and television veteran (who worked on films like the original mad max). the script landed there because i placed it there, after working for him as an editor on one of his other projects- he decided to take me out to lunch the next day. after some subtle changes and with the promise of me forking up some cash, he agreed to help me produce it. from that moment i worked myself to the bone to muster up 10k, and we made it happen. that film was the experimental horror called "MUSHI 虫" and it went on to win me 14 selections, 1 semi finalist, 3 finalist, 6 nominations and 7 wins around the world.

with the wind in my back and some awards on my belt you would think my next script would be financed immediately right? wrong! though i had a lot of love and support from festival-goers, cinephiles and my mates; my scripts and concepts constantly seem to confuse or upset any potential funding backers. i want to experiment with film and try something new and exciting but i'm assuming that makes it difficult for anyone to comprehend the madness. partially due to my struggle with vocal expression, i need to explain how i feel/think with the art that i make- the film itself.

so as the industry politely pat me on the back and walked me to the exit, i decided to bite back and prove everyone wrong yet again, worked with legendary artists like david firth (salad fingers) and self funded my new script and film; "Parallax Of The Liminal Void". after spending years honing my craft, creating music videos for underground music artists that i like in my spare time, milking the teet of capitalism for a coin or two, i am ready to share my new nightmare creation with the rest of the world in 2025.
