The purpose of the VIII Competitive Exhibition of Black Cinema Adélia Sampaio is to select and disseminate audiovisual productions made by Black Women realized in different parts the world. The Competitive Exhibition will select short, medium, and feature films and telefilms that have been made by black female directors (cis and trans). After three editions only with brasilians female directors, this years the exhibition became international, with the objective to expand the debate of Feminin Black Cinema .

REGULATION
I – PURPOSE
1.1 – This CALL aims to select and promote audiovisual productions created by Black women in order to participate in the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio, to be held from November 9 to 14, 2026.
This edition will be hybrid, with films screened online via the UBUPLAY platform and in an in-person event. The event aims to promote exchange among Black women filmmakers worldwide.
The VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio will select short, medium, and feature-length films, telefilms, and music videos directed by Black women (cis and trans), produced from January 2024 onwards, in digital format.
II – ORGANIZATION
2.1 – The VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio is organized by Sebastiana Mídias e Produções.
III – THE COMPETITIVE SHOWCASE
3.1 – The VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio will consist of a competitive showcase of films in the following categories:
3.2 – Short Film
For the purposes of this call for proposals, short films are considered to be cinematographic works in the genres: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental and music video, with a maximum duration of up to 29 (twenty-nine) minutes, finalized in digital format .MOV or MP4, h264 Codec (including credits);
3.3 – Medium-Length Film or Telefilm
For the purposes of this call for proposals, medium-length films are considered to be cinematographic works in the genres: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, with a minimum duration of 30 (thirty) up to 69 (sixty-nine) minutes, finalized in digital format .MOV or MP4, h264 codec (including credits);
3.4 – Feature Film
For the purposes of this call for proposals, a feature film is considered to be Cinematic works in the genres: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, with a duration exceeding 70 minutes, finalized in digital format .MOV or .MP4, h264 codec;
3.5 – Films whose original audio is not Portuguese must include Portuguese subtitles.
IV – SUBMISSION PROCEDURES
4.1 – Submissions must be made via the Festhome platform (international films) or through the form available on the official page (Brazilian films only).

4.3 – The data required for registration is:
a) Completed submission form;
b) Film copy for viewing, must include Portuguese subtitles if in another language.
§1 – If links (e.g., Google Drive or similar) are provided, they must remain accessible until the final selection results.
4.4 – Works that may constitute any type of institutional or corporate promotion, advertising, or content of any prejudiced or discriminatory nature are prohibited from participating in the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio.
4.5 – Films in other languages will only be accepted if subtitled in Portuguese.
4.6 – Selected films for the 2026 edition of the Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio will be screened online on UBUPLAY platform and at the in-person event to be held in the Federal District.
4.7 – Selected works will become part of the Adelia Sampaio Exhibition archive and may be screened in itinerant exhibitions in schools and other educational institutions. The production of the Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio undertakes to inform the filmmakers of the participation of their works in these events, under the commitment that they will never be used for commercial purposes.
4.8 – Submissions will only be validated if the film (whose link must be provided on the submission form) is accessible for viewing during the selection period.
4.9 – In case of changes to the parties responsible for the films, the new contact information must be provided to the event production team in a timely manner.
4.10 – The production team will only contact you using the contact information provided on the submission form. They are not responsible for communication failures due to outdated information.
V – SELECTION PROCESS
5.1 – The selection of films for the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio will be carried out by a Curatorship, appointed by the event's organizing team.
5.2 – Selected films will be announced by the coordination of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio via email, the official website, and social media.
§1 – The email used for submission will be the official communication channel. Therefore, the coordination of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio is exempt from any responsibility for failure to receive the email.
5.3 – The selection of films for the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio implies their screening during the event, and the applicant is prohibited from withdrawing them from the competition.
5.4 – Only films completed from January 2024 onwards are eligible.
5.5 – Films not selected in previous editions may be submitted again.
5.6 – The selected filmmakers will receive a notification from the festival's production team. They should respond with an email (with the film title as subject) to the address

a) Download link for the film;
b) Accessibility versions: sign language window, audio description, subtitles for the deaf/hard of hearing, closed captions (if available);
c) Portuguese subtitles;
d) Trailer or teaser;
e) 03 (three) photos/frames from the film in .jpg format, 300 dpi resolution (for promotional purposes);
f) One frontal photo of the film director's face in .jpg format, 300 dpi resolution (for disclosure);
g) Digital movie poster in high-resolution .jpg format, if available;
h) Copyright statement;
i) Authorization for display on the UBUPLAY platform, as well as completion of the form provided by the platform itself.
VI – CALENDAR
Submissions: April 10 to May 30, 2026
Selection announcement: by August 10, 2026
Deadline for sending film download link: August 30, 2026
Event dates: November 9 to 14, 2026
VII – GENERAL PROVISIONS
7.1 – The organization of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio reserves the right to display excerpts from the films – up to 1 minute each and/or trailers – of the participating films in any media for the purpose of promoting the Exhibition.
7.2 – The Director and Coordination of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio reserve the right to resolve any issues not covered in this call.
7.3 – Participation in the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio implies full acceptance of these regulations.
VIII – AWARDS
8.1 – The organization of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio will appoint the awards jury.
8.2 – Selected films will compete in the following categories:

– The VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio may, separately, award honorable mentions to works that are relevant to the event, or special prizes if the jury deems it necessary.
8.3 – The Awards Jury may award trophies to invited guests, individuals or institutions connected to the event, provided that this is in agreement with the organizers of the Exhibition.
8.4 – Trophies will be mailed to winners unable to attend.
8.5 – The Exhibition is responsible for one attempt to send the trophy. In case of return by the postal service, the reshipment will be the responsibility of the person responsible for the film.
8.6 – In the case of a project where the responsibility lies with a team, in any of the competing categories of this call, the trophy will be unique, and the team will have the right to decide who owns it.
8.7 – The jury is not required to award all categories.
8.8 – The list, with the winning films in each category, chosen by the Awards Jury, will be approved and announced at the closing ceremony of the VIII Competitive Exhibition Of Black Cinema Adelia Sampaio and, subsequently, published for the general public on the official website and its social media.
IX – APPEALS
9.1 – The decisions of the selection and awards jury are final and not subject to appeal.
