Thank y'all for supporting our little film festival since 2017! Hosted by McDowell Arts Council Association; MFF is a short film festival welcoming all genres and uplifting Southern Appalachian Filmmakers. While we welcome film submissions from all US regions, priority will be granted to filmmakers located in the Southeast. MFF is both Juried and Judged.

Awards & Prizes

MFF is both Juried and Judged. There will be an in-person awards ceremony at the end of the event. Folks not present in person for the awards event will receive their awards via email.

Rules & Terms

1) Films running over 15 minutes will not be eligible for awards. On rare events we do select special screenings for these projects, but they are not eligible for screening awards.

2) All projects must include closed captioning provided by the filmmaker, in English or the language in which the film is recorded and intended to be presented in. All people deserve to experience film equally.

3) MFF, it's staff, and affiliates reserve the rights to use posters, clips of submitted film, and names associated with billing on film submitted for the purpose of promoting screening events. Don't worry we won't post any spoilers.

4) MFF reserves the right to remove any film from our lineup at any time.

5) Films promoting bigoted, racist, homophobic or transphobic ideology are not welcome or acceptable for screening at MFF.

    This was a great festival! Well run. Very positive for filmmakers. Audience was enthusiastic. A good time was had by all! We'll be back next year.

    A Great Short Film Festival showcasing some of North Carolinas Independent Filmmakers. A+ Quality and Friendly Atmosphere for All. This was our second year in the competition and will most definitely be in the 2023 Festival.

    A smaller festival, but one with great people and selections. Absolutely worth the value, free drinks and alcohol, cheap popcorn, and 8 films that you get to watch alongside local filmmakers. Good amount of awards as well.
