With a dad as a special effects makeup artist, blood and guts became a normality for Kyra. Combat nursing became her prime focus, but she soon discovered that real blood is more intense than the fake stuff. Since high school she’s been pursuing a career in directing and plans on creating quirky fantastical films inspired in part by her unconventional childhood.

Kyra Gardner's short film "Past Presence" was one of eight student films selected for the 39th Cleveland International Film Festival's "First Time Film-maker's" Division." Writer/Director Kyra Gardner was the youngest participant at age 16.
Kyra Gardner's documentary "The Dollhouse" was a student film made at Florida State University's College of Motion Picture Arts, but Universal Studios also included the film on the DVD/Blu-ray release of "Cult of Chucky" as a bonus feature - a first for a film school, and a film school student.
Kyra Gardner's senior thesis film at FSU ("Phoebe") earned her the Best Woman Student Filmmaker honors from the Directors Guild of America. The film stars a four foot tall animatronic fish puppet, voiced by Kimmy Robertson.
