Phoebe

Phoebe is a real catch... she just doesn’t know it yet. Far from home, she tackles a new sea of challenges during her first weeks at college. With her flamboyant roommate Adam as her navigator, she no longer feels like a small fish in a big pond, and she learns to feel comfortable in her own skin.

Director Biography - Kyra Gardner

With a dad in special effects makeup, blood and guts became a normality for Kyra at a young age. Combat nursing was her first goal, but she soon discovered that real blood is way grosser than the fake stuff. Since high school she’s been pursuing a career in directing and plans on creating quirky fantastical films from the lore of her unconventional childhood.

Director Statement

"Having the main character a fish provides a visual representation of anyone who has felt out of place. The point was to create a character so lovable and adorable you can’t hate her. You want to hug her and love her from the moment you first see her. And in turn it’s upsetting to see the other characters be mean to her for her just plainly being who she is. Then maybe audiences can transpose that over to the real world - on how we shouldn’t judge others or discriminate for things that people can’t change about who they are. She represents any minority, a person with a disability, or a member from the LGBTQ+ community who has been discriminated against just for being who they are - and she learns to feel comfortable in her own skin regardless of others."
