K-CULTURE AI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (KCAIF)

K-CULTURE AI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (KCAIF) is a newly established international film festival dedicated to discovering innovative and original cinematic works created with or assisted by artificial intelligence. The festival introduces these works to audiences around the world and celebrates the creative vision, passion, and artistic achievements of filmmakers working with AI.

Organized by the Korea AI Film Festival Association (KAIFA), the inaugural KCAIF will take place on September 6, 2026, at enTravel(앙트레블) in Gangnam, Seoul, Republic of Korea. As a global platform, KCAIF brings together AI filmmakers, artists, technologists, and forward-thinking creators from around the world to explore the future of storytelling, visual culture, music and sound, and the new possibilities emerging through collaboration between humans and AI.

Rooted in the spirit of K-Culture, KCAIF offers a distinctive international stage where cultural identity, artistic imagination, and cutting-edge technology come together. More than simply presenting new forms of cinema, the festival seeks to create a new cultural experience where Korea’s creative energy connects with audiences around the world.

Through its Official Selections and awards in multiple categories, KCAIF honors excellence in originality, storytelling, artistic achievement, emotional resonance, and technological innovation in AI-driven filmmaking.

[ STATE-OF-THE-ART SCREENING ENVIRONMENT ]

To provide a high-quality visual experience, selected works will be showcased on a large-scale 4K-compatible LED screen measuring approximately 5m x 3m. This screening environment is designed to present AI-driven cinematic works with clarity, detail, and strong visual impact.

[ DISTINGUISHED JURY PANEL ]

KCAIF is committed to a rigorous, fair, and insightful evaluation process. The jury panel brings together experts from diverse fields, including academia, film directing, film criticism, philosophy, AI, media, and cultural studies.

This multidisciplinary composition allows KCAIF to evaluate each work from multiple perspectives, including technological innovation, artistic depth, storytelling, emotional resonance, and philosophical significance.

[ FESTIVAL SCOPE ]

KCAIF welcomes a wide range of screen-based works, including AI-generated films, AI-assisted films, animation, experimental cinema, hybrid media, digital art, and works that creatively integrate music and sound into cinematic expression.

These works are recognized as innovative artistic attempts that expand the boundaries of creative expression, open new possibilities for storytelling, and present new directions for visual arts in the age of AI.

KCAIF presents awards based on the official categories registered on FilmFreeway.

The festival and jury panel may present special awards or additional recognition depending on the number of submissions, the quality of submitted works, jury evaluation, and festival operations.

[ OFFICIAL SELECTION & RECOGNITION ]

KCAIF may recognize submitted works through the following official selection and recognition statuses:

• Official Selection: Works selected for the festival’s official competition
• Semi-Finalist: Works recognized during the preliminary evaluation stage
• Finalist: Works shortlisted for final consideration
• Winner: Award-winning works in each category
• Grand Prize: The highest overall honor of the festival

The selection stages and award scale may not be applied equally to all categories. They may vary depending on the number of submissions in each category, the quality of submitted works, jury evaluation, and festival operations.

[ TROPHIES & DIGITAL MATERIALS ]

• The Grand Prize winner attending the award ceremony may receive a physical trophy.
• Winners and officially selected works may receive official KCAIF laurels, certificates, or digital recognition materials.
• Winners who are unable to attend the award ceremony may receive digital award materials.
• The jury panel may present special recognition to works demonstrating outstanding AI storytelling, artistic achievement, originality, and technological innovation.

[ RULES & TERMS ]

Please read the following Rules & Terms carefully before submitting your work to the K-CULTURE AI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (KCAIF). By submitting your work, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Rules & Terms.

1. Eligibility & Work Requirements

KCAIF welcomes submissions from filmmakers and creators worldwide. Submitted works must have been completed on or after January 1, 2025. Premiere status is not required, and previously screened or publicly released works are eligible.

Submitted works must use artificial intelligence (AI) as a significant creative element in the production process. AI usage may include, but is not limited to, planning, writing, image generation, video generation, animation, editing, visual effects, sound design, music, or other creative processes.

2. Submission Method & Multiple Entries

All entries must be submitted through FilmFreeway via online screener. Physical submissions such as DVDs, USB drives, or printed materials will not be accepted.
Entrants may submit multiple works.

3. Language & Subtitles

Films not in English must include English subtitles. Korean subtitles are recommended but not required. Entries without English subtitles may be excluded from consideration.

4. Accepted Works & Running Time

KCAIF accepts a wide range of AI-related creative works, including AI films, animation, experimental works, hybrid media, digital art, trailers, screenplays, posters, and audiovisual works incorporating AI-generated music or sound.
Film and video works are generally recommended to be between 3 and 20 minutes in length.

5. Review & Selection

All submissions will be reviewed by the festival jury panel. Recognition statuses may include Official Selection, Semi-Finalist, Finalist, Winner, and Grand Prize.
The selection stages and award scale for each category may vary depending on the number of submissions, the quality of submitted works, jury evaluation, and festival operations.

6. Screening & Presentation

Selected works may be presented as part of the festival program through online screenings, in-person screenings, special events, or other festival-related formats. Screening and presentation formats will be determined according to festival operations, venue conditions, and program planning.

7. Promotional Use of Materials

By submitting, the entrant grants KCAIF the right to use trailers, still images, posters, titles, credits, and brief excerpts of the submitted work for festival screening, promotion, archival, and festival-related purposes.
Such use will be limited to activities related to KCAIF and its official promotion.

8. Rights & Responsibility

The submitter confirms that they own or have obtained all necessary rights and permissions for the submitted work, including music, images, footage, AI-generated assets, voice, likeness, and other related intellectual property rights.
The submitter is responsible for any copyright infringement claims, rights disputes, or legal issues arising from the submitted materials. KCAIF reserves the right to reject or disqualify any work that infringes upon the rights of others, may give rise to legal disputes, contains false or misleading information, or is deemed inconsistent with the festival’s purpose, ethics, or standards.

9. Submission Fees

All submission fees are non-refundable. Fees will not be returned in the event of withdrawal, disqualification, non-selection, or submission to an incorrect category.

10. Official Communication & Result Announcement

All official communication will be conducted by email or through FilmFreeway. Entrants are responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date contact information.
Selection results and award announcements may be published through FilmFreeway, the festival’s official website, official social media channels, or other official communication channels.

11. Changes & Final Agreement

KCAIF reserves the right to update or amend these Rules & Terms when necessary. The festival schedule, venue, screening format, and program may be subject to change due to festival operations, venue conditions, or other unavoidable circumstances. Any updates will be announced through the festival’s official page or official communication channels.
