Mediterranean Film Festival Split takes place annually in June in the city of Split, the second largest city in Croatia. During 10 days, the Festival presents a showcase of best European and world film productions, it organizes lectures, workshops, exhibitions and other side events. Beside feature films, a great attention is dedicated to the programme of short films and the promotion of young authors and their work. In 16 years of its existence, the Festival has become the most visited cultural event in the city of Split and one of the most popular manifestations in Croatia.

Stunning Festival venues, Bacvice Open Air Cinema located in a pine wood next to the sea, Gripe Fortress and Cinematheque Zlatna vrata situated inside the walls of 1700 years old Diocletian palace in the heart of Split, surely make it one of the most unique film festivals worldwide.

This ‘No red carpet’ festival is characterized by a very relaxed atmosphere, in case of a sold out Open air screenings, which happens practically every day, the audience is eager to watch the film sitting on beach towels, improvised chairs and benches inside the cinema. Every evening after the screenings and other events, the day is closed with a party organised in the Bacvice Open Air Cinema.

Extra factor that makes this festival different from the others is spreading the positive energy from Split to other places: In 2012, Kino Mediteran project of reviving cinema in Dalmatia started with the aim to renew theatres and bring film programme in small towns and islands where cinemas have been closed for decades. Kino Mediteran project grew throughout the years, it now includes 20 towns and is organized during the entire year with 60.000 visitors annually.
