AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK

AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK is a new international film festival in Glasgow dedicated to short films created with the help of artificial intelligence and neural networks.

The festival welcomes filmmakers, digital artists, AI creators, storytellers, animators, experimental directors, and creative teams from all over the world. Our mission is to explore how artificial intelligence is changing cinema — not only as a technology, but as a new artistic language.

Held in the vibrant city of Glasgow, AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK presents a curated one-day program of short films up to 40 minutes in length. We accept works created fully or partially with AI tools, including AI-generated video, AI-assisted animation, synthetic voices, generative images, AI-assisted editing, virtual production, text-to-video tools, AI sound design, AI music, and hybrid workflows combining traditional filmmaking with neural network technologies.

We are not looking for technology alone.

We are looking for vision.

The festival is open to bold, emotional, strange, beautiful, disturbing, poetic, political, funny, personal, and experimental films that use AI with purpose. Whether a film is fully generated by neural networks or only partially shaped with AI, we are interested in works where the technology serves the story, the atmosphere, the concept, or the cinematic experience.

The festival program includes a handpicked selection of around 20 short films from international submissions. Films are grouped thematically to create meaningful screening blocks and conversations between works, audiences, and creators.

More than a showcase, AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK is a meeting point for filmmakers, AI artists, cinephiles, technologists, critics, students, and curious minds. Alongside screenings, we host Q&As, networking, and conversations about creativity, authorship, ethics, storytelling, and the future of cinema.

Awarded to the most outstanding AI-assisted or AI-generated short film of the festival, regardless of genre, country, or production method.

Best AI Narrative Short

For the strongest fiction film using AI tools to tell a compelling, emotional, original, or visually distinctive story.

Best AI Documentary Short

For non-fiction, essay, archival, hybrid, or documentary-inspired works that use AI responsibly and creatively to explore real subjects, memories, ideas, or perspectives.

Best AI Animated Short

Celebrating outstanding AI-assisted animation, character design, visual style, movement, worldbuilding, and storytelling.

Best Experimental AI Film

For films that push the boundaries of cinematic form, structure, tone, visual language, or the relationship between human creativity and machine generation.

Rules & Terms

AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK welcomes short films from all over the world that are created fully or partially with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools, neural networks, or generative technologies.
Films must not exceed 40 minutes, including credits.
We accept AI-assisted and AI-generated films in the following categories:

– AI Short Film
– AI Narrative Short
– AI Documentary Short
– AI Animated Short
– Experimental AI Film

Submitted films must use AI tools in a meaningful part of the creative process. This may include, but is not limited to:

– AI-generated video
– AI-generated animation
– AI-assisted animation
– AI-generated images or backgrounds
– AI-generated characters or environments
– AI-assisted editing
– AI visual effects
– AI-assisted script development
– AI-generated voices
– AI-assisted sound design
– AI-generated or AI-assisted music
– Text-to-video tools
– Image-to-video tools
– Virtual production
– Hybrid workflows combining live action, traditional filmmaking, and AI technologies

The use of AI does not need to cover the entire film. We accept both fully AI-generated works and films where AI is only one part of a broader creative process.
Filmmakers must briefly describe how AI was used in the creation of the film. This may include the tools, workflow, creative process, or specific elements generated or assisted by AI.
Films in any language are accepted. However, all non-English films must include English subtitles. Submissions without English subtitles will not be considered.
Premiere status is not required. We accept films that have screened at other festivals, online platforms, private events, or previous showcases.
If selected, filmmakers will be asked to provide a high-quality digital screening file. Preferred formats are .mp4 or .mov. Filmmakers are responsible for ensuring that all files meet technical requirements for screening.
By submitting a film, the submitter confirms that they own the rights or have obtained the necessary permissions for all submitted material, including images, music, voices, performances, scripts, archival material, third-party content, and any other copyrighted elements used in the film.
If a film includes AI-generated voices, reconstructed voices, likenesses, real people, public figures, private individuals, or synthetic representations of identifiable persons, the submitter must ensure that all necessary permissions and ethical considerations have been addressed.
Films containing misleading deepfakes, non-consensual likeness use, defamatory material, hate speech, explicit exploitation, or illegal content will not be considered.
The festival accepts AI-assisted works, but final creative responsibility must remain with the submitter. The filmmaker or creative team must be able to explain the artistic intention, workflow, and authorship behind the submitted film.
All submissions are reviewed by our programming team and guest curators. Selection is based on originality, craft, emotional resonance, visual language, concept, ethical use of AI, and overall cinematic impact.
Films are grouped thematically for optimal curation and audience experience.
Selected films will be screened in person in Glasgow, with optional director Q&A sessions and audience discussions following each screening block.
A portion of the program may be shown as part of year-round screenings, special curated events, educational programs, or AI cinema showcases.
Online participation may be offered as an optional format through private, password-protected platforms. Participation in any digital screening is subject to filmmaker approval.
Entry fees are non-refundable and help support venue rental, staffing, programming, technical operations, and outreach. We do not offer fee waivers, except for officially invited films or works submitted through partner institutions.
All selected filmmakers will be notified by email and FilmFreeway. Please ensure your contact details are accurate and up to date.
Selected films will be eligible for jury awards. Winners will receive official laurels, certificates, and inclusion in festival press releases, website announcements, and promotional campaigns.
By submitting, filmmakers grant AI GLASGOW FILMSTOCK permission to use stills, short clips, trailers, posters, and excerpts from the submitted film for promotional purposes related to the festival.
Submission does not guarantee selection. The festival reserves the right to make final decisions regarding programming, eligibility, category placement, and screening format.

We may offer optional online showcases via private, password-protected platforms. Participation in digital screenings is subject to filmmaker approval.
