Lookout Wild Film Festival – Call for Submissions

For over a decade, the Lookout Wild Film Festival (LWFF) has brought the world’s best outdoor adventure and environmental films to Chattanooga, Tennessee. What started in 2013 as a small gathering of outdoor enthusiasts has grown into a premier film festival, drawing over 4,000 attendees to our flagship three-day event. With virtual screenings and a multi-city tour expanding our reach, LWFF continues to inspire audiences and connect filmmakers with a passionate community that loves the outdoors.

At its heart, Lookout Wild Film Festival presents stories of diverse people who seek, explore, and protect wild places. From local to international adventure and environmental films, we inspire curiosity, build connections, and deepen appreciation for nature.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome a wide range of films that capture the essence of outdoor adventure, exploration, and conservation. Whether it’s high-energy action sports like skiing, climbing, or mountain biking, or immersive journeys by foot, paddle, or bike, we’re looking for stories that showcase the thrill of the wild. We seek powerful narratives of resilience, healing, and human connection to nature—whether through personal challenges, cultural perspectives, or groundbreaking conservation efforts. From remote mountain expeditions to underground caving adventures, from ocean depths to high-altitude air sports, LWFF celebrates the full spectrum of outdoor experiences. We also value fresh voices and perspectives, including Indigenous storytelling, adaptive athletes, and underrepresented communities in the adventure world. Some films make us laugh, some inspire action, and some leave us in awe—but all share a deep love for the outdoors and the stories it holds.

Why Submit to LWFF?

We’re not just another film festival. LWFF is a community. We bring together filmmakers, athletes, conservationists, and adventure lovers for Q&As, workshops, and networking opportunities. Over the years, we've proudly hosted World and US film premiers, introduced new talent to the adventure film scene, and showcased stories that might otherwise go unseen.

Set in Chattanooga—twice named Outside Magazine’s “Best Town Ever”—LWFF is the heart of a city known for rock climbing, paddling, mountain biking, and outdoor adventure. It’s the perfect home for your film. Chattanooga is also the US' first National Park City.

If your film captures the spirit of adventure, the beauty of wild places, or the urgency of environmental storytelling, we want to see it. Submit your film and become part of the Lookout Wild Film Festival!

AI - The presence of AI in a film will not, by itself, benefit or disadvantage a submission during selection or judging. Films will continue to be evaluated on originality, storytelling, craft, technical quality, execution, and emotional impact.

Filmmakers submitting work to Lookout Wild Film Festival are required to be transparent about any substantial use of artificial intelligence in their films or production process. This includes the use of AI in creating or assisting with visual material, dialogue, music, sound design, sound effects, or other audio elements, as well as any AI use connected to writing, editing, post-production, or other creative and technical workflows.

Submissions must also disclose any use of AI to reproduce, simulate, imitate, or generate performances by real or fictional individuals.

Lookout Wild Film Festival understands that the level of AI involvement in a submitted film may not always be independently verifiable. For that reason, the Festival relies on filmmakers to provide complete, accurate, and transparent information about how AI has been used.

The Festival will not accept films that use AI to recreate, imitate, or represent identifiable people, living or deceased, unless explicit permission has been granted by the individual, their estate, or the appropriate rights holder. Films will also not be accepted if they contain AI-generated material that violates copyright, licensing agreements, intellectual property rights, data protection laws, or other applicable legal requirements.

Lookout Wild Film Festival may ask filmmakers to provide further information about AI use in any submitted work. The Festival reserves the right to withdraw or disqualify a film if it is found to breach these requirements.

  • Even though I couldn’t be there in person, I truly appreciated how thoughtful and well-organized the festival was, especially in terms of communication.

What a fun festival! We were able to attend to see the U.S. premier of our film "Adapt(ive)" and were even invited to participate in a filmmaker panel and introduced on stage. It was a delightful event with well-curated films and the communication before and during the event was spectacular.

This was such an incredible experience for me. I traveled from the UK and it was so worth it. Chattanooga is a wonderful town and the people were so welcoming and friendly. The festival was superbly run by Steve and the team, who were an utter joy to meet. The films shown were of a very high standard and hugely enjoyable to watch. Even if my film doesn't get in next time, I know I will be returning! Highly recommend this unique and life-affirming film festival to any nature/wildlife lovers and storytellers!
