Calling all movers, filmmakers, choreographers, video artists and multidisciplinary creators from around the globe!

We’re pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 6th edition of Boreal Screendance Festival. As in previous years there is no fixed theme, we welcome a wide range of works exploring the relationship between movement and the camera, from video art to narrative dance or movement focused films and everything in between.

Our mission is to showcase and share screendance in the north of Iceland and beyond.

Depending on the nature of the work, selected videos will be shown either in a traditional screening format at Deiglan Gallery or as part of an installation at the Akureyri Art Museum. Some pieces may be presented in both spaces.

Artists are invited to apply with dance films, experimental video art, or other works within this spectrum.

-Film submissions must not exceed 10 minutes in duration.

-Only one film per applicant is allowed. If multiple submissions are received, only the first will be considered; all others will be discarded.

-Recordings of live dance performances will not be accepted.

-All applicants will be notified of the selection results by September 7th, 2025.

-If your work is selected, we will contact you to ask for additional information and materials.

Thank you Boreal, for having us. We had a lovely experience, even though so far away. Thank you for the promotions and the timely comms. We hope you enjoyed our film. Would love to return with fresher works and possibly meet the team in person. Best wishes to the festival!

  • I love that this festival embraces the art gallery setting and the installation aspect of dance film. The communication was great, and they were extremely generous in their promotion of the film and sharing of the material. I hope to attend in person sometime!
