We’re Kendal Mountain Festival.

Established in 1980; every November we bring thousands of outdoor enthusiasts from across the globe together - to share and celebrate the best stories from the world of nature, adventure and mountain culture.

Our Festival is a wonderful amalgamation of content: a breathtaking film programme, a jam-packed speaker lineup and heart-warming community gatherings.

At the heart of our Festival is an incredible film programme which is curated from entries submitted to our annual international film competition. We screen feature length films as stand-alone events alongside short films curated into themed collections. In 2024, we are keen to support and welcome the submission of short, uplifting adventure films to balance the hard-hitting but incredibly important films that focus on climate, and economic and humanitarian issues.

Successful filmmakers we will be invited to join us over the Festival weekend. We provide two nights accommodation for up to two people, opportunities to present your film to our audience and offer an amazing opportunity to network with over 200 industry professionals from around the globe.

Kendal is more than our November Festival and successful films will be considered to feature on our 100+ date UK and USA tours and will be welcomed to our Kendal Mountain Player - a year-round digital offering of films and speakers.

Films are judged against twelve competitive categories by a panel of film and outdoor experts, and in the case of the People’s Choice, the audience itself.

A trophy sculpted by Chamonix-based artist Andy Parkin will be awarded for the best film in each category.
