Reflect/Reflection

Deep Fried Film Festival launched in 2006 as an affordable film festival for independent film makers around the world to screen their films. The festival has been a launching pad for many in the industry who have kept in touch over the years and continue to show their support.

To celebrate both the 20th anniversary of Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival and Deep Fried Film Festival, we are hosting a special anniversary event ahead of the return of our main festival program.

We would like to invite film makers to submit their short films relating to the theme of “Reflections” and invite those with successful submissions to join us in person or online to discuss their film, their practices and reflect on the importance of mental health within their work.

A short note accompanying your submission about "Reflect" or "Reflection" and its relationship to your submission would be great and will provide a starting off point if invited to participate in a recorded discussion about you and your work.

Past interviews are available to view on YouTube by searching "Deep Fried Film Festival"

More information about the theme can be found at https://www.mhfestival.com/

Screenings will take place in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

There are awards - oh yes there are!!!

Audience votes from across the venues give us an average for each film and we award accordingly. No cash unfortunately however you do receive a Deep Fried Film award, promotion of your film and interview on Pulled Focus.

Films must be in English or Subtitled in English. Subtitles must be burnt onto video track - any submissions who fail to do so either upon entry or request at selection confirmation, will not be shown at venues.

No pornographic or illegal films.

The festival is exceptionally great, the festival is very organised, the communication and engagement with film makers had no delays. My film was honoured to be selected and win the film festival. Unfortunately I missed the screening of my film which was on my birthday due to the fact I was camping but I managed to see few films which were great in their essence. I appreciate the effort of the film festival team to make this festival engaging to public during Covid lockdown. Thanks for this beautiful experience.
