CloseUp is a film festival celebrating students, with a particular eye to young Dutch filmmakers in both live action and animation. In its competition screenings, it showcases audiovisual graduation projects from 2021, 2022 and 2023 and focuses on creating learning opportunities for the students and connecting them to the industry ,lowering the barriers to entry and giving more diverse works the chance to be seen by their audience!

Awards & Prizes

The festival is focusing on celebrating imperfection and helping more students reach the industry and their audience, so we want to focus less on a single “best film” and more on giving students a learning chance, so there will be 3 “Jury’s choices” instead, each receiving an award.
Together with the chance to have your film seen, each winning short will receive written feedback and advice from the jury member that selected them, all established professionals in the industry.

Rules & Terms

Closup's competition selection is only open to graduation films from the years 2021, 2022 or 2023. The festival's out of competition selection is open to graduation films made in previous years or debut films made outside of an art education.

With their submission, together with the rights to show their film at the festival, the filmmakers are giving Closeup permission to use parts of their press kit (images and text) in the festival's publicity and on social media.
