In response to the rapidly evolving language of cinema, CINEMO also embraces AI Films — a new category celebrating storytelling created with artificial intelligence, including both AI-assisted and AI-generated films. The introduction of AI Films marks a new chapter in CINEMO’s mission to explore emerging creative tools shaping the future of cinema.

CINEMO is a worldwide unique festival dedicated exclusively to films shot entirely on mobile phones, culminating in a live screening and Award Ceremony.

In 2024, the festival received film submissions from 18 countries worldwide. Remarkably, in just one year, that number nearly doubled to 33 countries in 2025, reflecting CINEMO’s rapidly expanding international reach and growing community of mobile filmmakers.

Additionally, in 2025, CINEMO reached a search results of 5,200,000 on Google Search, highlighting its rising prominence and global recognition.

THE STORY BEHIND CINEMO & “Don’t moan — shoot on phone!”

The idea of CINEMO was born from the Booktrailer International Film Festival, when many aspiring creators wrote saying they wanted to participate, to bring books to screen, but had no cameras to film.

That’s when the thought appeared — simple, yet powerful: “Don’t moan — shoot on phone!” (orig. Az.: Fikir çəkmə — telefona çək!).

What started as a phrase became a movement. From that spark, CINEMO was born — a space for anyone to create, film and share stories using only a smartphone. The name, which is reflecting the festival’s mission, comes from:

CINEma + MObile = CINEMO

Rules & Terms

1. It is allowed to enter films that have been published online before submitting;
2. It is allowed to enter any number of films in any nominations;
3. Submitting your films does not guarantee screening or acceptance. A notification of your film status will be sent to you;
4. The film must be an original production and must have full clearance for all content, including music. Any issues that may arise due to the infringement of copyrights is the participant’s responsibility. The CINEMO is not responsible for any infringement of copyrights;
5. If there is any doubt about the filming of the film on a mobile phone, videos, screens, behind-the-scenes materials, etc. taken on the mobile phone may be required;
6. All films have to be submitted via FilmFreeway.com. We do not accept direct email submissions.

Requirements:
1. The submitted film must be shot in a mobile phone;
2. Use of additional equipment (professional or home made) is allowed, including (but not limited to) external microphone, lenses, lighting, tripod etc.
3. Any mobile app or computer software to edit video and audio as well as colour correction or special effects is allowed.
4. Foreign filmmakers are welcome in any language, but the submitted film in a language other than English must have English subtitles.
