Brixia Film Fest is an annual cultural event held in the historical city of Brescia, Italy, celebrating the magic of cinema. Our festival offers a platform to emerging and established filmmakers alike, providing them with the opportunity to have their work seen by a diverse and enthusiastic audience.

Among the many activities this year, you have the opportunity to sign up to two different contest:

THE SHORT–MOVIE CONTEST
An exceptional jury of honour, with Luca Ferrara as chairman, will evaluate the submitted works, consisting of:

Luca Rabotti, Elisa Dondi, Alain Parroni, Tommaso Favagrossa, Luca Sorsoli, Alessandro Abba Legnazzi, Marco Scotuzzi, Giulia Gualzetti.

The four awarded short films will be screened at Cinema Nuovo Eden in Brescia, Italy, on August 22, 23, 24, 25, 2024.

BRIXIA HUB – THE SCREENWRITING CONTEST
For its fourth edition Brixia Film Fest is launching, as well as its annual short-movie contest, Brixia Film Hub: a screenwriting contest which will give access to a 4 day residency to 8 selected filmmakers.

Brixia Film Hub is a unique experience that will launch its first edition in the frame of Brixia Film Fest 2024. The event is meant to give 8 filmmakers from all around the world the chance to take part in an artistic residency where a team of professional screenwriters, directors and producers will help develop a production strategy for a single script from each selected candidate, also giving access to every Brixia Film Fest afternoon and evening activities including talks, screenings and more.

The residency will take place in the city centre of Brescia (Italy) from 22nd to 25th August.

The selected candidates will be hosted in two 4-people flats and will also share bathrooms with other candidates.

After breakfast at the residency, morning activities will take place at the beautiful Brescia Castle, famous for its strategic location and preservation. Brixia Film Hub activities will end after lunch each day, leaving time to enjoy other Brixia Film Fest events.

The Brixia Film Hub crew aims to mentor each selected candidate in creating a pitch deck, identifying key selling points, and suggesting improvements for future production. Ultimately, they strive to provide all necessary tools to help candidates bring their films to life.

Although Brixia FIlm Hub won’t produce any of the selected scripts, the residency and participation in the festival is a great opportunity for networking with Brixia Film Fest Jurees, potential producers, other directors and filmmakers from all around the world. The selected candidates will have the chance also to pitch their film to our guest producers, to receive tips or production deals.

Awards & Prizes

1. SHORT–MOVIE CONTEST

Best Film: best film for artistic merit, storytelling, technical execution and compliance with festival guidelines.
Prize: 1,000 €

Best Production: best film for production value and complexity.
Prize: 500 €

Experimental Award: best film for visual experimentation and importance to the development of film language.
Prize: 200 €

Student Film Award: best student film for artistic merit, storytelling, technical execution and adherence to festival guidelines.
Prize: 12-month distribution contract offered by Flash Future Srl, the terms of which will be stipulated with the producer of the short film.

Rules & Terms

1. SHORT–MOVIE CONTEST

Films must have been completed after October 25, 2023.

Films may not have been released theatrically or shown on television prior to the festival and films may not have been publicly available online (i.e YouTube, Vimeo) prior to the Festival. Earlier festival screenings are not an issue.

We present all films in their original language. Non-Italian or non-English language films must feature English subtitles in order to be considered. All filmmakers whose works becomes part of the Official Selection will be required to provide Italian subtitles for projection purposes. Please get in touch if you have any questions or seek further information about this point.

We do not accept works in progress.

Once the submissions are closed, four awarded short films will be selected at the unquestionable judgment of the jury. The four awarded short films will be screened at Cinema Nuovo Eden in Brescia, Italy, on August 22, 23, 24, 25, 2024.

The selected directors grant the temporary rights to their film for the screening from August 22and August 25, 2024 and for the promotion of the event on social media in the days leading up to it.

The films in the final selection can be sent or shown to Producers or Production companies if specifically requested, after notifying the author in advance.

2. BRIXIA HUB – THE SCREENWRITING CONTEST

Every candidate must apply with a script. Multiple applications by the same candidate are permitted. The script has to be intended for a short film and can’t be longer than 26 pages. The film can also already be shot before the application, as long as the selected candidate is wishing to re-shoot it and continue to work on it.

Once the residency concludes, the participant can proceed with producing the film. Regardless of using their own resources for production, the filmmaker or film production company must mention Brixia Film Hub as a partner in the film's development. This mention should be included in the end credits, but it is not a production credit.

The submitted film must be written in English or Italian. The candidate takes all responsibility declaring to possess every copyright and paternal ownership of the script sent, excluding Brixia film Hub and Line Culture from any legal responsibility that might involve any third party, such as authors or production companies, who may legally own right to the script in place of the applicant. Brixia Film Hub will cover tutoring and guests fees, residency, morning breakfast, lunch and tickets for each Brixia Film Fest activities.
