The Black Auteur Film Festival is Austin’s only film festival dedicated to Black cinema. Our mission is to preserve, elevate, and celebrate Black auteurs. In addition to year-round screenings, workshops, and community events, our annual festival showcases short films by Black filmmakers living in Texas. This one-day event also features special guest speakers, networking mixers, and a repertory screening of a Black film classic followed by a Q&A with our BAFF Artist of the Year.

All selected filmmakers who attend the festival will receive a monetary stipend of $100 or more. Additional stipends are listed below:

What a wonderful festival produced by wonderful people. All of us as filmmakers felt very welcomed. Communications were responsive and the festival itself was well executed and timely. Most film fests don’t provide compensation for exhibiting your film. This one not only provided a stipend for each filmmaker but also included audience awarded payments as well. The audience members and filmmakers were also given raffle tickets to win goodies provided by the sponsors. So basically the festival was a gift that just kept on giving. Most importantly the festival line up exposed me to some awesome films and conversations with other talented filmmakers I would not have otherwise met. Brovo to producers Alex and Ryan and to all those who brought this festival together. Looking forward to submitting every year!

BAFF is a fantastic festival! Very film maker friendly and more hospitable than most. Communication was excellent and on top of that was blessed to watch my film in front of a sold-out audience! Worth submitting to and will be attending again in the future.
