Biencortos was born in Maracaibo | Venezuela in 2022, as an annual showcase for regional and national productions. In its third year, in 2024, the organization led by the Proyecto Gaveta collective decides to experience ambitious growth, expanding its horizons and transforming itself into an event of greater scope.
This leap marks the beginning of a new stage for Biencortos, which seeks to consolidate itself as a platform of reference for independent cinema nationally and internationally. The festival aims to be a meeting place for filmmakers and productions worldwide, promoting the creation and dissemination of short films as a form of artistic and cultural expression.
The festival also offers parallel activities, such as workshops, talks, and special events, that promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge among film professionals and the general public. It is also conceived as a space for the community, where film lovers can enjoy a quality program and participate in various activities that can develop the region, boost the local film industry, and attract cultural tourism.
“Shorts = Cinema” sums up the essence of Biencortos—the short film as a form of artistic and cultural expression as valid as the feature film. The festival seeks to support the value of short films and position them as powerful tools for telling stories, reflecting realities, and generating opinions.

Biencortos nace en la ciudad de Maracaibo | Venezuela en el año 2022, siendo una muestra anual en la que se exhibían con orgullo producciones regionales y nacionales. En su tercer año, en el 2024, la organización liderada por el colectivo Proyecto Gaveta decide experimentar un ambicioso crecimiento, expandiendo sus horizontes y transformándose en un evento de mayor alcance.
Este salto marcó el inicio de una nueva etapa para Biencortos, que busca consolidarse como una plataforma de referencia para el cine independiente, no solo a nivel nacional, sino también internacional. El festival se propone ser un espacio de encuentro para cineastas y producciones de diversas partes del mundo, impulsando la creación y difusión del cortometraje como forma de expresión artística y cultural.
El festival también ofrece actividades paralelas, como talleres, conversatorios y eventos especiales, que buscan fomentar el intercambio de experiencias y conocimientos entre los profesionales del cine y el público en general. De igual manera, se concibe como un espacio para la comunidad, en la que los amantes del cine puedan disfrutar de una programación de calidad y participar en diversas actividades que permitan desarrollar la región, impulsando la industria cinematográfica local y atrayendo turismo cultural.
"Cortos = Cine" resume la esencia de Biencortos. El cortometraje como una forma de expresión artística y cultural tan válida como el largometraje. El festival busca respaldar el valor del cortometraje y posicionarlo como una herramienta poderosa para contar historias, reflejar realidades y generar opinión.
The festival will award the following main prizes: Puentes Award for Best International Short Film, Lagos Award for Best National Short Film, Relámpagos Award, and Audience Award.
The following categories will also be awarded: Best Screenplay, Best Direction, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Sound, and Best Music in the Puentes and Lagos Section, and Best Performance, Best Choreography and Best Artistic Direction in the Relámpagos Section.

El festival otorgará los siguientes premios principales: Premio Puentes al Mejor Cortometraje Internacional, Premio Lagos al Mejor Cortometraje Nacional, Premio Relámpagos y Premio del Público.
De igual manera se premiarán las siguientes categorías: Mejor Guion, Mejor Dirección, Mejor Actor, Mejor Actriz, Mejor Dirección De Fotografía, Mejor Dirección De Arte, Mejor Edición, Mejor Sonido y Mejor Música para las secciones Lagos y Puentes, así como también la Mejor Interpretación, Mejor Coreografía y Mejor Dirección Artística para la Sección Relámpagos.
