Sculpting shadows, human isolation, and psychological realities from the high-contrast landscapes of Iran.
Benyamin Khodabandeh, is an Iranian independent filmmaker, director, and professional colorist born in 2004 in Saravan, Sistan and Baluchestan. Currently pursuing a degree in Cinema Directing at Damghan University, his work is characterized by a deep exploration of psychological boundaries, human isolation, and the distortion of reality.
Coming from a region with a rich yet overlooked cultural landscape, Benyamin’s cinematic language often bridges the gap between traditional storytelling and surrealist modernism. With over 12 independent projects under his belt—ranging from experimental shorts to psychological dramas—he has garnered significant acclaim in national festivals, including the prestigious Nahal International Student Short Film Festival.
As a "multi-hyphenate" artist, Benyamin often takes full creative control of his projects, serving as Director, Cinematographer, and Colorist. His technical expertise in DaVinci Resolve allows him to craft high-contrast, low-key visual worlds that mirror the internal conflicts of his characters.

Self-Taught Beginnings: Started making films at age 14 in Saravan with basic camera setups, teaching himself editing and color grading before pursuing formal academic training in cinema directing.
The Colorist’s Mindset: Views color grading not as post-production polish, but as an essential phase of screenwriting and emotional storytelling—frequently developing visual color palettes during initial script drafts.
Multidisciplinary Leadership: Appointed as the Festival Director for the 3rd Fanous Khayal National Student Film Festival at age 21, leading national jury panels of veteran Iranian filmmakers.
Atmospheric Influences: Deeply inspired by atmospheric narratives across mediums, including atmospheric cinema, fine-art black-and-white photography, and narrative-driven open-world game design.
Visual Trademark: Heavy use of chiaroscuro lighting, silent character beats, high dynamic contrast, and monochrome color palettes.
"Take a gamble that love exists, and do a loving act."
— Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2
Filmmaker's Note: "Even in the darkest, most low-key visual landscapes, there must remain a pulse of redemption and emotional vulnerability."
