Director Biography - Benyamin Khodabandeh

Iranian independent filmmaker, director, and professional colorist studying Cinema Directing at Damghan University. he merges high-contrast visual atmospheres, low-key lighting, and psychological noir to explore the delicate boundary between memory, perception, and reality. Winner of Best First-Year Film at the 19th Nahal International Student Short Film Festival and Festival Director of the 3rd Fanous Khayal National Student Film Festival.

Director Statement

For me, cinema is not about recording reality; it is about capturing the shadow that reality casts on the human mind. My films are journeys into the 'unseen'—the fears, memories, and perceptions that we often fail to articulate.

Growing up in the high-contrast landscapes of Sistan and Baluchestan, I became obsessed with the interplay of light and dark. This obsession has evolved into a visual signature: a preference for monochrome palettes, heavy shadows, and atmospheric storytelling. Whether I am telling the story of a man lost in his own mind or a city’s forgotten colors, my goal is to make the audience feel the weight of the silence between the frames. I believe that the most powerful stories are found in the fringes of our perception.
