Basilicata International Film Festival (BIFF 2026) – Regulations
Registrations for BIFF 2026 (Basilicata International Film Festival) open on October 8, 2025, and close on July 31, 2026.
Registration is exclusively online via the website www.filmfreeway.com/basilicatafilmfestival.it.
2.1. The registration fee is divided as follows:
Student | free
The competition is open to short films, doc-films, and short food (short films with food as a theme), including animation, produced from January 1, 2023, to today.
Only works with a maximum duration of 20 minutes (including titles and credits) are eligible.
Works created before this date or exceeding the duration limit will not be admitted to the competition.
3.1. Works that have participated in past editions of the BIFF are not allowed.
Works from all over the world are admitted. Foreign works not in English must be subtitled in English or Italian. It also requires foreign works to send the dialogue list to facilitate understanding of the work.
At the time of registration, the authors must be of age and declare that they possess all the rights of economic use and vision of their work. They must also declare that their work is original and does not infringe on third-party rights.
Each author can register more than one work, provided they pay the respective registration fee.
At the time of registration of the short films, doc-films, and short food, the authors must provide a digital copy of the work to the festival, or alternatively upload it to Vimeo or a similar platform, to allow viewing and evaluation by the jury.
By registering for the competition, the festival is allowed to use the submitted works and the requested materials for advertising, media, and promotional purposes. In no way will BIFF or the organizers profit from the works, which will be screened for free during the festival days.
By registering for the competition, the participant becomes a sympathetic member of the “Robin Williams” non-profit film cultural association for the calendar year 2026.
With the registration, participants will have the right of free access to the various events organized, special agreements with selected hotels and venues, and the final prize-giving evening.
Admission to the Competition
The submitted works will be initially evaluated by a technical commission to verify compliance with the regulations and admit them to the official selection. Later, the works will be evaluated by an external jury composed of professionals who will decide the winners of the various categories.
The festival will open on October 1, 2026, and the awards ceremony will take place on October 3, 2026, during the closing night.
Once registration has been completed, the following files must be sent to the festival management via e-mail within and no later than 20 days from the date of receipt of the confirmation email:
Digital copy of the work in .mp4 h264 format (720p or 1080p | max 2GB)
50/60 sec clip or trailer to be used in the festival promotional video
Poster of the work in A4 size, minimum 300 dpi (29.7 x 21 cm / 3508 x 2480 px) in JPG or PDF format
Synopsis of the work, minimum 200 / maximum 350 characters
Please also remember to carefully fill in the technical sheet of the work at the time of registration, indicating all names and roles of the main artistic cast and the complete list and respective roles of the technical cast.
Exclusions
The festival management reserves the right to refuse works if the following situations occur:
13.1. Failure to comply with the admission requirements set by the regulation; requested files not received within the established time; incorrect or missing information.
13.2. Content contrary to the laws in force, incitement to hatred towards any culture or ethnic group, or offensive to human rights.
13.3. If fewer than 3 participating works are received in one of the following categories: Doc-Films, Short Films, or Short Food. In this case, the registration fee will be refunded.
Any attempt to obtain information on the final results of the competition before the official announcement — which will take place during the awards ceremony on October 3, 2026 — will result in the disqualification of the work, and the entry fee will not be refunded.
