Dance Source Houston is seeking submissions for Barnstorm Dance Fest 2027. Films selected will be screened twice during the festival, taking place April 21-24 at Midtown Arts & Theatre Center Houston. The festival features 2 unique programs of 20 live performance and film works, as well as workshops and classes, artist talks, and social gatherings.

All works in the festival are curated to highlight choreographers showcasing the breadth, depth, and diversity of dance from Greater Houston, across Texas, and beyond. With an interest in works that combine choreography and cinematography, Barnstorm Dance Fest welcomes submissions from all perspectives within dance film, including narrative, documentary, and experimental.

- DANCE GENRES -
Submissions from choreographers and filmmakers working in all dance forms are encouraged. We encourage applications that highlight a range of movement traditions, practices, and styles.

- TIME LIMIT -
Films should be 3-8 minutes in length. Works outside this time range will not be considered.

- COMPLETION STATUS -
Works in progress will not be considered. Films submitted must be in their final version.

- APPLICATION FEE -
A $10 application fee is required for each submission.

- FESTIVAL ATTENDANCE -
Choreographers are encouraged to attend the screenings if possible, but the ability to attend does not affect eligibility or consideration. If available, the choreographer/filmmaker will be invited to participate in a post show artist panel.

- STIPEND & TICKET -
Choreographers whose works are selected for inclusion will receive a $100 stipend. Stipends will be paid by check on the final day of the festival. Each screened film will also receive a complimentary ticket to both runs of the program the film is featured on.

- PAST FESTIVAL PARTICIPATION -
Artists whose works, either film or live performance, were included in the past 2 consecutive festivals (2025 & 2026) are ineligible for 2027 consideration. We encourage you to apply next year for the 2028 festival.

- NOTIFICATION -
All applicants will be notified of the panel’s decision by November 1, 2026.

All selected films will receive an "Official Film Selection 2027" laurel for marketing and promotional use.

Participating in the DanceSource Houston Film Festival, part of the larger Barnstorm Dance Fest, was a truly heartwarming experience. Though I couldn’t be there in person, the entire team’s exceptional communication made me feel connected and supported throughout. The festival was incredibly well-organized, and the attention to detail was evident in every aspect. One of the most rewarding surprises was reconnecting with a friend I hadn’t seen in over 25 years – a testament to how dance can bridge time and space, bringing us back to the people and passions that matter. DanceSource Houston created a space that not only celebrated dance on camera but also fostered genuine connections. Bravo to the entire team for a fantastic festival experience!
