The Baku International Film Festival was established in 2004 by the Young Filmmakers Center of Azerbaijan. The festival, which has long been called "Start", has been operating at the Baku International Film Festival.
AWARD - GOLDEN POMEGRANATE

As the meeting point for young cinematographers, the Festival gives a great beginning opportunity for creative people.

Each author carries ideas and wants to share them. Such festivals are the platforms for sharing and self –affirmation. This festival combines high human values, artistic taste and a cinematic approach.

Films were sent to the festival from about 89 countries. Currently, the scale of the festival covers the whole world.

Baku International Film Festival is the longest-running festival in Azerbaijan, bringing to our country films that have won awards and success at Cannes, Venice, Berlin Film Festivals and Oscar award.

The goal of the Baku International Film Festival, which offers minimal discounts and maximum talent, is to review and discuss films, to select the best ones and reach a wide audience, to familiarize local authors with international practices and trends.

Festival provides an opportunity for local directors to establish contacts with their foreign colleagues. Thus, it has become a tradition for foreign directors to visit our capital as part of the festival. Each year, the festival covers travel and accommodation expenses for about 20 foreign filmmakers.

Rules & Terms

PLEASE NOTE: The competition covers nominations for short films, documentaries and animated movies;

In order to submit a film to the Festival you need to register on the FilmFreeway platform
For those who want to submit a film from the FilmFreeway platform:
- Detailed information about the director (name, surname, age and work, photo)
- Creative composition of the film, synopsis, two photographs from the film, trailer
- file with English subtitles

Presented films must be produced in 2024-2025;
First Feature Film (Debut) more than 52 min;
Short films should not exceed 30 minutes.

Films should be sent in English with subtitles or audio translation. In addition, the dialogue and the text of each film should be translated into English and presented in writing;

Deadline for submission : August 01, 2025;

The films submitted are reviewed and included in the competition program by the
Selection Commission consisting of the people appointed by the Organizing Committee;

The list of participated films in the competition will be posted on our website on November 10 , 2025.

Films from the festival program can be shown only in non-commercial presentations related to the festival

Films will be judged by an international jury;

The winners of the festival are awarded with Golden Pomegranate, special prize and diploma.

Awards will be presented at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Festivalın Yerli müsabiqə bölməsində Azərbaycan istehsalı olan filmlər iştirak edə bilər;

Yerli film müsabiqəsinə təqdim olunan film Beynəlxalq müsabiqəyə təqdim oluna bilməz;

Filmlər Təşkilat Komitəsinin təyin etdiyi Seçim Komissiyası tərəfindən baxılaraq müsabiqə proqramına daxil edilir;
Müsabiqəyə qatılacaq filmlərin siyahısı 10 noyabr 2025-ci ildə saytımızda yerləşdiriləcək;

Festival proqramındakı filmlər ancaq festivala aid qeyri-kommersiya xarakterli təqdimatlarda nümayiş etdirilə bilər;

Müsabiqədə filmləri yerli münsiflər heyəti qiymətləndirəcək;

Festivalın qaliblərinə “Qızıl Nar”, xüsusi mükafat, diplom verilir;
Müsabiqə qalibləri bu nominasiyalar üzrə seçiləcək:

    I'm delighted to meet all of you in Baku, this beautiful city, through cinema. It’s an incredible film festival that has given full recognition to my work. There’s an old Chinese saying called "Yuanfen", which means a destined encounter—and I truly believe that’s what this is. My Chinese name carries the imagery of fire, and Baku is the City of Wind and Fire. How wonderful it is!
