Alice nella Città is an International Film Festival, autonomous and parallel to the Rome Film Fest, dedicated to the younger generations.
The festival promotes film culture within a large audience, made up especially of young people, through a rich program of screenings, meetings with delegations and specialists from the film industry, activities, workshops and much more.
Alice's aim is to be a global laboratory to provide an all year long education platform for tomorrow's audience. As in the previous editions the festival will involve schools, kids and teens in participating as jury to follow the official program composed by the most relevant titles for young people. The general program is composed by a competitive and an out-competitive section, special activities and a big event addressed to national and international cinema schools.
The artistic directors of Alice nella Città are Gianluca Giannelli and Fabia Bettini.
Alice nella Città promotes the idea of a direct meeting with the public and the great masters of cinema, behind and in front of the camera. During the ten days of the festival, the young audience will have the opportunity to conduct conversations with great directors and actors. In 2019 Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer, Gabriele Muccino, Carlo Verdone, Giuseppe Tornatore, Jacques Doillon, the Dardenne Brothers, Gianni Amelio and Casey Affleck were just some of the many artists who attended the event.



JURIES AND AWARDS

Alice nella Città Best Film Young Adult Competition
A jury composed by high schools students will assign the award for the Best Film in Young Adult Competition.
Golden Camera Award for Best First Feature
A professional jury will assign the Award for the Best First feature Between the films selected in Competition and in Panorama. The eligible films will be just those presented in European and Italian premiere. The Award will provide an incentive for the Italian distribution of the winner film.
Alice nella Città Artistic Directors shall introduce Special Mentions and other prizes.

REGULATION
1. ORGANIZATION
Alice nella Città is a Festival organized by Cultural Association Playtown Roma that has all copyright on the name and logo. Starting from 2012 Alice nella Città is the Independent and parallel section of
Rome International Film Festival focused on youth.

2. AIMS
Alice nella Città drawing attention to high quality cinema, without any kind of restriction, with special care for innovation, unconventional, first-time projects and new trends is today a real “festival in the festival “, dedicated to young people.
Alice nella Città was born in 2003 and on 2012 returned to be an independent event on the fringes of the Rome International Film Fest, to deal directly with its large audience with its rules and regulations.
A permanent think-tank to nurture a collective intelligence and to sustain individual talents, an ideal and informal place where authors, directors, musicians and actors will be able to confront each other and to work together, giving new blood to the world of cinema. Alice's aim is to be a global laboratory to provide an all year long education platform for tomorrow's audience.
As in the previous editions the festival will involve schools, kids and teens in participating as jury to follow the official program composed by the most relevant titles for young people. The general program is composed by a competitive and an out-competitive section, special activities and a big event addressed to national and international cinema schools.

3. DATES
Alice nella Città 2020 will be held from 15th > 25th October 2020 in Auditorium Parco della Musica and neighboring venues and others areas of Rome.

4. PROGRAMME
Alice nella Città official program will include:
A maximum of 14 films in Young Adult Competition
A maximum of 12 films in the International Panorama
A maximum of 12 italian feature films (fiction and documentaries) in the Italian Panorama
A competition dedicated to short films.

5. OTHER ACTIVITIES
Alice nella Città Artistic Director would decide to realize meetings and encounters for the audience and for the professionals with national and international films talents in order to verify each time a different issue about making film, its technique, its stars, the schools and its evolution.

7.SELECTION OF FILMS
7.1 Eligibility Criteria
All film submissions must be recent productions completed not prior to December 1th 2019.
The elegible films in Alice nella Città Young adult Competition must not have been presented in Europe or may just been screened in the country of origin.
The Artistic director and selection committee will give priority to World and International Premiere.
Alice nella Città Artistic Director shall make exceptions at the admissions rules above.
7.2 Preselection formats
In order to be considered for selection, postmarked no later than Monday August 3rd 2020, the film’s presenters must:
a) Send a link or
a) Send to ACPlaytownRoma headquarter a DVD/Blu-ray/DCP
7.3 Selection modalities
Works will be selected at the sole discretion of the Festival’s Artistic Director and Selection Committee. The general programme, venues and screening schedules shall be decided by the Artistic Direction exclusively.

8. FILM SUBMISSION
8.1 Materials to be sent for selection
In order to be considered for selection, postmarked no later than Monday August 3rd 2020, the film’s presenters must:
a) Complete the film submission on Filmfreeway platform
a) Send to Alice nella città a DVD/Bluray or a link of the film final version
Film submitted must be presented in the original version with English subtitles
(no subtitles are requested for Italian films). All the shipment costs for the film submission are covered by the submitters including all custom duties and taxes for films from outside the E.U.
The pre selection form extempts ACPlaytownRoma from verify the legitimation of the submitter (who will be considered also the film contact) and implies the legal acceptance of this regulation.

8.2 Return works submitted for selection
The Festival is under no obligation to return works submitted for selection. All materials (works-in-progress) and films will become part of the Festival archives, for documentation and research purposes only, and will not be used for any commercial purposes, to safeguard the interests of filmmakers and producers.
8.3 Rules and Regulations acceptance
Participation in the Festival (9.2) automatically entails observance of the present regulations. Producers, distributors or other parties who submit films to the Festival must guarantee they are legally authorized to do so. The Director of Alice nella Città reserves the right to select the films and insert it in the various sections programs.
Should any dispute arise regarding the interpretation of any article contained in these regulations, the
original Italian version is to be considered binding.

9. SELECTION
9.1 Selection Entry form
Films invited to participate in the Festival will receive a selection entry form that must be duly completed and returned no later than Friday August 28th 2020.
9.2 Acceptance of the invitation
The receipt of the entry form by the Festival implies the legal acceptance of the invitation by all concerned and will be considered definitive and irrevocable, giving to ACPlaytownRoma the authorization to insert the film in the festival program and screen it.
ACPlaytownRoma may allow exception to Rules and Regulations themselves in specific and well-motivated cases and has the right to eliminate a selected title from the official program if conditions (particle 8.1) will change.
9.3 Program
The invitation of a film must remain absolutely confidential until the program of the Festival has been
officially announced. Failure to comply will result in its exclusion from the selection. Programming and
scheduling of the screenings are at the sole discretion of the Artistic Director.
Acceptance of the invitation by the film’s presenters entails the commitment not to withdraw the film, as well as the commitment to allow at least four public screenings (professional & industry screenings are not included) of the film at no additional cost, and to accept the hospitality policy which will be sent along with the invitation.
9.4 Facilities for the participation in MIA market of the selected films
The films that will be presented in Alice nella Città at least in European Premiere will benefit of facilitations and preferential treatment on the costs of participation in MIA International audiovisual market.
9.5 Film copies
The following materials must be received by the Festival no later than 30th September 2020.
Presenters are required to respect this deadline.
- 2 DCPs in the original version with English subtitles

Copies of films sent in the Digital Cinema Package format (DCP) must strictly comply with DCI directives and be recorded on hard-disks (with SATA interface for ingest –CRU) in NTFS –EXT2 - EXT3 formats only.
If the DCP is protected by KDM, the opening of the same is requested from the date of shipment of the copy to October 25th, for all servers that will be specified by the organization.
With the exception of DCP submissions, the Festival reserves the right to decide, on the basis of its own organizational requirements, to transfer any other exceptionally-admitted materials to hard-drive using “normal ingest” procedures.
The Festival reserves the right to refuse prints that Festival technicians deem to be of unsatisfactory
quality for a public screening.
In order to ensure the quality check for all the films it is necessary to receive the copies and the relative opening of the KDM for the encripted DCP, strictly by 30th September 2020.
The submitters of invited films must arrange for the return of the copies with the Organization, so that they may be shipped, at the expense of the submitters, on or before Friday November 7th, 2020. Beyond that date redelivery is not guaranteed.
9.6 Original Languages and subtitles
Copies of the selected films must be in original version with english subtitles.
The organization will take care of the electronic italian subtitles.
For this reason, the presenters of invited films must also send the following material to Alice nella Città within Friday September 4th 2020:
• A downloadable link of the film final version with English subtitles, exclusively for the Festival’s internal use (final cut same as the copy that will be presented at the Festival for the subtitling requirements)
• The final list of subtitles with time codes.
9.7 Hospitality
The feature films selected in Competition will be represented at the Festival by a delegation comprising the director, the majority producer and one of the leading actors. The Festival undertakes to provide bed & breakfast accommodations for two nights to the members of European delegations and three nights for non-European delegations. The feature films selected in Panorama will be represented at the Festival by the director and the Festival undertakes to provide bed & breakfast accommodations for two nights to european and three nights for non-European.
9.8 Catalogue
All materials required for the Festival catalogue and promotion of the film (synopsis, cast and credits,
biography and a complete filmography of director, photographs of director and actors and stills from the film in b/w and colour, as well as a brief director’s statement on the film) must reach Alice nella Città headquarters at the earliest convenience, and in any case no later than 4thSeptember 2020 and be clearly labeled “Materials for catalogue”.
9.9 Press material
The presenters of participating films must send the following press material separately for distribution to the press and potential buyers no later than Friday September 4th 2020:
-digital press book + 300 press books in English, 200 in Italian;
-25 copies of clips/trailers/teasers for accredited television channels, in DVD (free zone or zone 2), Mini DV or Beta SP Pal, in both the original version and in Italian (if it exists).
Presenters of films must also provide digital images of the film and the director, video material (.avi/.mov) and clips.
All publicity and promotional material must include the mention “Film selected for Alice nella città 2020”.
9.10 Official Logo
Acceptance of the Festival’s invitation of a film to take part in the event obligates the submitter to display the Alice nella Città official logo provided by the Organization on all advertising materials for the promotion of the film (posters, press kits, trailers, opening credits, official website), as well as on the copies that will be presented at the Festival and circulate in the theatres.Moreover, all promotional material accompanying the release of films that have won awards at the Festival is strictly required to indicate the award won, using the official graphics provided by the Organization itself. The complete and definitive graphics for the above-mentioned materials should be sent for verification and approval to the Organization.
9.11 Permission for Image/Video/Audio Submission
It’s a condition of participation that all participants agree that any photograph, recording or broadcast of their participation in the Festival will be the property of the Festival to use, rebroadcast, publish, distribute or reproduce in future promotional materials. Furthermore, all participants agree that this right is extended to televisions and media partners that will cover the Festival and consent to the recording (even at the presence of a specific sponsor, re-production and use of photos, audio and video recordings in any forms for promotional purpose (including without limitation, commercially sponsored, television, internet, on-line platform etc) for free.

10 SHIPPING AND INSURANCE
10.1 Shipping costs
Transportation costs (delivery and return) must be borne by the submitter, including any customs charges. All the films coming from outside Europe must be addressed to the international shipping agent indicated by the ACPlaytownRoma. Their insurance will be covered by the Festival only while they are on Festival premises or on the premises of the Festival’s shipping agent.
10.2 Transportation of promotional material
Transportation costs for the delivery of promotional, informative, and photographical material regarding films (including any customs charges for deliveries from non-European countries) must be borne by the submitters of the film. Promotional material will not be returned.
10.3 Insurance
Insurance costs for the delivery and the return of the films and printed material will be borne by the submitters of the film.
ACPlaytownRoma provides “fully-comprehensive risk” insurance for the entire period during which the copies are in the care of the Festival. The insurance value of a film may not exceed the
average laboratory costs for a standard copy.
11 GENERAL RULES
11.1 Any cases that should arise which are not covered by the present regulations are at the discretion of the ACPlaytownRoma.
11.2 In case of dispute, the Italian version of the present regulations shall prevail.
11.3 This regulation and the preselection entry concern just Alice nella Città.
